Chips: 139 | | | Possible bad idea Ok, so I've got a new set of pharaohs, I don't see a need to oil these at all unlike the bluechips I have that definitley needed oiling. I have a potential bad idea, the edges on the pharaohs are razor sharp as many know and I would like to get them a bit rounded. I am thinking of throwing 25-50 chips in a cloth bag and into my clothes dryer (on no heat of course) for a bit. I'd like to be patient and let natural wear do it's thing, but I'm impatient. I figure it would imitate the casino wear as chips are splashed and pots are raked.
Anyone ever try this or anyone advise against it?
This could be BPC's secret to their chips! I was just thinking, if you throw in an oily rag you could oil your chips at the same time....hmmmm.

Chips: 2,183 | | | You know, I remember reading a thread about this very idea on TH-P very early this year or late last year. I believe the general consensus was, "Bad Idea". |

Chips: 139 | | | I'll give it a try with 25 chips, that way I'll only be out $25 and I can buy new ones. I'm gonna try it during lunch, I'll post my results with a 20 minute spin in the dryer.

Chips: 2,131 | | Not only does this sound like trouble, it also is denying you and your players of an experience they probably rarely enjoy: the pleasure of handling brand-spanking-new Paulsons. It's kind of like having a child--yeah, it's kind of a PITA during the infant/toddler stage, but it only for a few short years, and they will never be as cute as that for the rest of their lives. So enjoy every moment.
And so your intent is to wear the edges off a little. Where do you think most of that worn-off clay is going to go? Rubbed off onto the other chips, of course. You're probably going to end up with various-colored marks all over the faces of the chips from contact with other chips. |

Chips: 139 | | | You don't think it warrants an experiment?

Chips: 934 | | | I wouldn't mess with it if it was my chips. Weird analogy since I don't have a good set of chips. When I first got my banjo, I loved how nice and new and shiny it was. I've had it about 3 years now and I love how worn and dirty it is. And I know that it's how it is because of my playing it for 3 years. I wouldn't feel that way if I bought a used banjo. |

Chips: 175 | | | I don't think I would put 25 in if I was going to experiment...maybe 10 or so.
BTW, I like your avatar. Ernie McCracken is the man.

Chips: 139 | | Experiment over, I did 24 of my $25 chips for 5 minutes. I didn't like the sound of the experiment, I was afraid I'd end up with a handful of pieces so I cut it to 5 minutes. You can see very minor dings in the edges and a few scuffs on the face, you can make the same scuffs by just rubbing the edge of a chip on another without much pressure. Had I let it go for 20 minutes I believe I would have seen some edge damage and not the effect I was looking for.
Maybe in a slower turn in a more padded environment, I was just looking to take the sharpness away not round them over, the kind of effect you get from shuffling for an hour or two.
On a seperate note, I've got 2 digital cameras, one 2.1 megapixel and another 5.0. How do you take close ups? I can't get either one to fucus close up.

Chips: 139 | | | The more I shuffle these the more it seems like a success, they shuffle easier, they do look worn. I'm not recommending it to anyone, but it's been done now.
