Chips: 13,575 | | | Thanks, Action Dan Finally read through HOH II. Last night I entered a large multi and got myself into chip trouble early. Nothing out of the ordinary, just the sort of thing that happens sometimes. Anyway, with my stack around 1/3 of the starting stack, my M under 10 and my Q around .25 (yep I'm in big trouble) I went into "Action". I stole so many blinds with all-ins I lost count. Seriously - I was all in before the first break about 15 times. Challenged only once and I won a coin flip.
Long story short, by following Harrington's advice, I turned a tournament that I usually just bust myself on into a finish about halfway up the money ladder. I think I finished around 30th. I didn't make that much money, but it was more than the cost of Dan's book. Imagine what it might have been had I actually had better results earlier!

Maybe you wouldn't use the word spectacular but I would think there's a few things in there that you hadn't considered before.
Volume II is about endgame tactics. Maybe you already know a lot of the stuff in this one, too, but I took the information regarding short stack play to heart, applied it, and had a superior result with it. I guess we all have to learn sometime. If you are already ahead of the game, then that's good.
If you have any specific disagreements about the books, I'd be glad to hear it (many on 2+2 do have disagreements, particularly with volume II).

Chips: 46 | | | I don't really have any major disagreements with either book, I just feel like it's way beyond the scope of the main audience, that is, internet players who usually play in sit n' gos. I think SnG strategy is total common sense (at least in the $5+1 - 30+3 levels) and many of the concepts for HOH are relatively useless in them. Like continuation bets... they're only good until the blinds get to 25/50... at that point a continuation bet basically ties you to the pot to the point where you almost have to call any raise.
There are bad, bad SnG players, but usually their problem is that they play loose early, tight late. Once you get that straightened out, there's not much else to them. The only thing that can prevent you from getting in the money on a regular basis is a bad run of cards. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
