You mave have answered this already, but ... How did you do in your Tourney? Did you find HOH useful?

If you really only care about #1 and there are better players you need to take chances throughout the tournament but taking a chance early is your best opportunity. If I thought I was a big underdog to start out with in something like this I'd push with any AA, KK, QQ in the first hour and cross my fingers. No slowplays, no checkraises - just push em in and hope you get called & win a big pot. Of course you need to adjust if the table is tight and you won't get callers, but if that's the case I'd start pushing with JJ, TT or AK too. | Interesting advice. I don't agree with 95% of it, but it's interesting nontheless. Perhaps we should spend some times looking at the pros and cons of it.

Chips: 20,038 | | | my first thought: any AA, KK, or QQ?
those hands each show up about 1/200 hands. in the first hour, we'll see 40 or so hands, and so we should'nt expect any opportunity to push. in addition, the chances of getting a call with these pushes seem...remote. "hey y'all, the blinds are 25-50, but i'm just gonna go ahead and bet 1000 all in with this 'lil 'ole hand i got here."
maybe something like a 4*BB + number of limpers*BB = your preflop raise, followed by an all-in on the flop if there are no overcards strategy...
many, daniel negreanu and mason malmuth (in one of the poker essay books) included, advocate a different strategy than the tight at first, then get aggressive thing. they say you wanna see a lot of flops in the early rounds, and look to accumulate a bunch 'o chips. then, as the blinds get big, you can tighten up some, and be assured action on your big hands, b/c of the way you played early.
anyone who's seen DN, or hansen, or esfandiari play recognize this as a viable alternative to the TJ cloutier weak/tight thing. |

Chips: 1,818 | | | HOH2 I loved HOH and I like the slansky books that I have read. The math basically confirmed alot of those "gut" decisions i have been making / not making.
Has anyone checked out HOH2? Probably worth its weight in gold like the first one.... just curious if anyone has read it. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846

Jojo' and I each started a thread about HOH II, right here in the strategy forum. Neither really much of a lively discussion going. Feel free to chime in on either one.
Any yes, it kicks ass. Can't wait for Vol. 3 (workbook of about 120 problems)! |

But yeah, I think treating it like a quiz book will only help to emphasize what you've learned, and what you may still need to give more though and understanding to (or point out sections that you should re-read).
More problems is g00t. |

Chips: 14,836 | | | I just got my copy yesterday and I'm only on Chapter 2. I'm sure that there's a lot of us who are still working our way through it or haven't picked it up yet. I suspect there will be a great deal of discussion as things go forward.
