Poker Related Non-Strategy Suggestions...

I am looking for some books to read, but I don't really want to read any other strategy books right now. I like Matusow's book. I read the Banker, the Professor, and the Suicide King. I also read Stu Ungar's story. I guess I really just want to read about poker/players/games, etc.

Any suggestions that you have read and liked or didn't like???

i got Cowboys Full from an in-law for xmas and it's pretty decent so far:

almost wouldn't want to admit it, but the Hellmuth published Deal Me In is a good bathroom read. each player wrote a brief (15-20 page) autobio. a bit of fluff, but some good stuff as well:

Positively Fifth Street is definitely the best. Biggest Game in Town is worth it as well.

It might be a strategy book, but it's so different that I will recommend it here: Tommy Angelo's Elements of Poker.

I'm probably one of the few who didn't think Positively Fifth Street was that great but I might have read it too late after learning much of what the book discusses already.

I would suggest the following "shitter reads"

Born To Lose: Memoirs of a compulsive gambler
Good read. My wife even read it which shocks me since she only reads Us Weekly and other gossip magazines.

Poker wisdom of a champion
This book is just a compilation of short stories by Doyle Brunson. Its a good quick read and worth buying. Some good old tales about other gamblers and so forth.

I also have read and own these books. Didn't like the writing style so much and they are somewhat dated but they might be up your alley. The content in Koniks books is good, but he gets too cute in his writing style... i.e. he overcompensates in words where the content is just fine on its own. I mean...if a guy gets a boob job for $100K...you don't have to decorate that transaction... the story on its own is good enough.
