PL Omaha literature.

I have decided to spread my wings away from purely a Hold'em background, and fancy trying to learn PL Omaha.

I have very little strategic knowledge of Omaha, so any advice would be helpful.

thanks

Re: PL Omaha literature.

Hi,

Omaha, mechanically, is identical to Hold'em with a few caveats. First you get four hole cards. Second you MUST use TWO from your hand and THREE cards from the board to make your best five card poker hand.

PokerStars has both limit and no-limit Omaha available as play money games (No deposit required). I suggest you give it a try. The pot-limit scenario brings added complexity (espaecially at a home game - online or casino not so much as the PC/dealer handle the betting limits).

Just remember that the average winning hand in Hold'em is "two pair" in omaha it's much higher (if there are three flushing cards on the board.. somebody has it.).

Also remember that at a full table nearly all the cards are in play.

just a thought... keep us informed of your progress

Re: PL Omaha literature.

Do a google search to get some articles on the net.. I think there's a site called omaha planet or something like that with some starter articles.

As far as buying books, probably Caiffone (sp?) first. I'm reading Slotboom, and I wouldn't recommend it for your first Omaha book, because it's not a great teacher of the basics, it's just a "here's how I did it" book.

Re: PL Omaha literature.

Jeff Hwang's new book is an excellent read for learning Omaha. He regularly has articles in Cardplayer.

Re: PL Omaha literature.

hmmm, pretty sure this was unlucky.

I was pretty happy with a suited AQ and pocket A's, but ecstatic when villain turned his hand over, but ouch what a river!! Lucky he was short stacked I guess.

Re: PL Omaha literature.

Nothing like hitting the case eight... Sheesh, he's got such a horrible starting hand.
