Re: Best no-limit hold'em cashgame book?

I would tend to ignore any book before reading Super System. Its pretty much all you need. How many of those other authors are playing in the biggest cash games in the world?

i'd probably tend to ignore the book that was written 30 years ago, at a time when games were...30-years-ago different.

I think it's still just about the only good 7 card stud book though... I haven't seen any others for 7cs.

Re: Best no-limit hold'em cashgame book?

Cmon jojo, have you tried playing that way in a cash game? It was world class then, and holdem is still dealt the same way. When you really know whats going on in a game, thats the style of choice for cash. Reading between the lines a little should allow you to beat almost any holdem game.

sklansky? 7stud for advanced players?

i don't really know b/c i don't play stud much. i was mostly referring to the relative value of this book as a nlhe cash game resource.

as an add-on to my typical curt post earlier:
brunson's section from 1976 was all about outrageous aggression. he recommends shoving in with deep stacks with draws. in fact, this is one of the key points that he hammers out throughout his section. this is fine as long as you have a lot of fold equity, b/c as we know shoving with a flush draw against top pair and getting called is bad for us, moreso the deeper we are.

also, as many of us know, shoving with big draws results in...getting called a lot in the year 2008. general consensus is that brunson was playing in weak-tight games with stacks that were 250bb+ deep. those conditions are NOT analogous to just about any ring game that anyone here is going to be playing in 90% of the time. and that includes 0% of the time you're playing online.

others that play nlhe cash, chime in, por favor. xtwalker? poboy? tmj? harlequin?

I agree with Jojo, in its time Super System was a revelation in poker literacy, but poker has changed a lot since then, people realise the "super system" style of playing and it is exploitable.

Also just because Brunson is playing in the biggest games, doesnt make him the best author.

for the record, in the big game the NL is 1k/2k with a 100k cap. so s/s isn't applicable there either.
