The Official US Casino Chip Price Guide (3rd ed) by Campiglia and Wells is a good general book and the most recent publication available. You can get from ebay.
I recommend you read the "Newbie Tip of the Day" thread (by Doug Smith but posted on this board by Jim Follis), especially the one about focussing your collection on a specific area. Thise threads also contain links to various websites and lists of books.
I can't recommend enough limiting your collecting to something specific. There is just too much out there. I limit my collecting to $1 Las Vegas and Las Vegas poker rooms. Not super expensive (although I have paid well over $200 for a few individual $1 chips), not too big and not too small(about 500 individual chips so far).
