Chips: 1,715 | | | Getting Started in Hold Em by Ed Miller My 14 year old cousin has been bugging her father and me about playing in our poker games. I was at Border's the other day and looked through Getting Started in Hold Em by Ed Miller. It seems like a good place to start. Anybody out there read it? Is it worth the price? Any better suggestions? I figure she can borrow ToP, SS and HoH from me later. Thanks.

Honestly, I think Lee Jones' Winning Low Limit Hold'em is an really good intro book. It explains the basic concepts pretty well, but is concise (i.e. short) enough it should hold the attention of a 14 yr old.
I haven't read the book you suggested though, so I can't really compare them.

Chips: 1,715 | | | Re: Chirstmas present - The gift of knowledge Thanks for the input guys. Mom and dad would be at the table with her so that is not a problem. As much as I'd like to start her in limit, there is simply no way we can get five people who want to play anymore. Miller's book covers limit and NL, cash and tournaments and is shorter than Jones'. Anyone else out there? |

It teaches ABC poker and does a good job of teaching the basics. It does get somewhat advanced towards the end but if I can read it then a 14 yr old certainly can. LOL |
