It's not really a sequel, it's just the second book in the series. You can read 2 without reading 1, and still gain a lot of useful information. |

The newer version is a little more updated, although the playing style that he advocates is a little dated. It can be used effectively, especially against weak tight players that you may encounter in home games or at mid limits online, but the game has gotten much more aggressive and the player base is much more knowledgable than when he wrote that section. He has admitted that the advice is still good, but that he has adapted since he wrote it.
also the newer book has sections on games that are gaining in popularity like triple draw, Omaha H/L, and Stud 8. The older book has a couple of sections on games that are kind of dying, especially the 5 card draw section. also the limit HE sections are fairly weak in both books, but the newer version is better.
I would suggest skipping the older book unless you are just looking to have a copy. It was the first poker book I bought, and it really helped me beat my college homegame for a long time, but since I have moved online and up in stakes it really isn't applicable. |

Otherwise, the other book has it all. |

Chips: 101 | | | Re: Brunsons books I totally agree with just getting SS2. SS1 is a bit outdated and geared towards the game and play of a few years ago. I know many people swear by the SS1 and SS2 but I feel that there are many better books available but the one thing in it's favour is that it covers most of the games. |
