It consists mostly of reading players and their styles not poker strategy.

You probably know that I am a poker book fiend, read just about everything out there. POP is a very good book and has some interesting things to say.
He divides players into four standard styles of play -- loose-passive, loose-aggressive, tight-passive, tight-aggressive -- and discusses each style. Other books discuss these styles, but not in such detail. It is a bit dry in its style, but worth reading.
BTW, one of the newer books that has a very interesting discussion of player's style's is Angel Largay's NL book (No Limit Hold'em: A Complete Course). This book is not really a "complete" course (Largay himself has said that the publishers made the subtitle): it concentrates on B&M small capped NL games. Anyway, he has a chapter in which he discusses how he uses the player's styles against them that rings very true to me (I am only an occassional B&M player). It is about the only other discussion besides Shoonmaker's of player's styles that I have read that I found useful. |

I am about to leave on deployment for six months so I am rounding out the stack of books I will be taking with me. I probably won't have enough time to read half of what I am taking, but I think I will add this one just in case.
Thanks again.
