the strategy section is worth reading a few times. also - his absolutely-straight-forward-approach to everything is hysterical IMO.

I agree with the straight-forwardness of the book. That's actually the reason I got the book, since I kind of laugh at how honest Barry is about stuff. I almost wish he hadn't been honest, though, because I have a pretty negative view of the poker "society" now. However, I think that was his goal.

I failed the quiz miserably. At that point I wondered if I should even bother reading on, since it was obvious that the book wasn't geared at me. I carried on, though.

Re: Ace on the River

decent book. I never bought it but read it one afternoon at Barnes and Noble when I was bored. That's my suggestion for it, save the $25 and go get a coffee and a comfy chair and read it in the store.

Re: Ace on the River

I bought it. Good book, no monumental strategy tips, but Barry's life stories make it a good read.
Its by far the most attractive poker book available...

Re: Ace on the River

I liked it for the fact that it isn't just another poker textbook. I am not a "reader" and found the shorter chapters a plus since I don't really a lot a great deal of time for reading. I like the high quality pics which I believe were meant as filler since this book was made from what was meant to be a chapter in Doyle's book. I think it was worth the price IMO.
