I've been playing at a live tourney at the casino for several months with no success. $60 buy in NLHE, T2500, about 70-96 people on average. After my 5-6th try, I finally broke through last night to the final table. I ended up taking 6th and a cash. A friend loaned me HOH 1&2 which I read over X-mas and this was my first tourney since then. I'd like to recommend this set of books to any one who needs to improve their tourney game.
I couldn't pull the trigger on some of his plays due to the fast blind schedule but the general guidelines for starting hands and position, Q vs. M (read the book), and much more were written in a clear and easily understandable manner. Tourney vs. cash game play IMO is very different and HOH spells it out.
HOH3 is kind of a workbook, which incorporates all of the lessons from 1 and 2. It consists of a number of hands that Action Dan played, with questions at each decision point. You get points depending on how you answer.
I don't know if HOH3 is a must-have, but if you liked 1 and 2, it is a nice addition.
Yeah thanks for the recommendation. I think I'm going to pick those 2 up to read. I'm hitting a point where I need some advice on how to improve my tourney play to bring it to the next level.

If you are a tournament player, then I'd definitely say you should read HOH 1 and 2. Harrington's concepts are very well known, so you are arguably at a disadvanatage if you don't know them but others at the final table or two do.
hi
I just finished Barry Greenstein's Ace On The River, and this book has helped my game emensly. since finishing in I took 1st in AC in a 45 person tourney and 1st in my home game. Before i had made final tables in 3 40+ tourmeys but could never break through the way i needed to.

HOH3 will teach you a lot of stuff... like, how you're not as good as pros, how pros are so much better than you, how you could never make the plays the pros make...
Will it tell me how not to decided to go all in with my KK VS the chip leader who's got only a few more chips then me when I'm one place out of the money only to get cracked by his 77 to which he picked up the 3rd on the board? That's info I needed last night!
