Which Skalansky book?

Has anyone read the following books? If so, which one would you recommend?

No Limit Hold 'em: Theory and Practice

or

Small Stakes Hold 'em: Winning Big With Expert Play

Re: Which Skalansky book?

I haven't read "No Limit Hold 'em: T & P" but was a big fan of "Small Stakes Hold 'em." If you're looking for advice on stricly small stakes/low limit hold 'em, you'll love "Small Stakes Hold 'em." If you're looking for more general guidance on No Limit, try the first book you list.

And if you haven't read Slansky's "The Theory of Poker" you should add that to the list. Definitely a math-heavy read, but essential.

Re: Which Skalansky book?

Definitely get and read SSHE. It's worth it even if you've only played NL to this point. The book is fantastic. I am working on the other one right now, I'm hoping to play more NL soon.

Re: Which Skalansky book?

step one: figure out which game you want to study.
step two: read that book.

they're both fine books. nlhetp is better, imo, b/c sshe isn't as functional as you'd like for online play.

blasphemy

SSHE is one of the main reasons I was a 3BB/100 winner at .5/1. It is a great book for loose tables and gives a lot of great fundamentals for limit play. There are adjustments you need to make for tighter games as you move up, but SSHE is still a great book to learn from.

Re: Which Skalansky book?

Every no-limit player should have 'Theory and Practice' on his shelf. It's awesome!

Re: Which Skalansky book?

Thanks for the replies...

In our home games we play No Limit.

Right now I have Harrington Vol 1 and Phil Gordon's Little Green Book. How would 'Theory and Practice' compare to the two?

imo it blows away the gordon book. harrington is the best intermediate nl tourny book (what to do and why), and nlhetp is more esoteric. unlike theory of poker (or nearly any other sklansky), he has a really good coauthor, and that makes a huge difference, b/c you can actually read it.
