First poker book you read?

What was the first poker book you read? When I first got into poker about 7-8 months ago my wife bought me Play poker like the pros by Phil Hellmuth. The only real info I used were his starting hands, folding pre-flop and being more aggressive. Since then I have read.

Theory of Poker - Sklansky
Super System 1 - Brunson
Tournament poker for advanced players - Sklansky
How I bluffed, raised ??? and won millions - Annie Duke
The Real Deal - Phil Gordon
Thursday night poker - O'Steiner
In the process of reading Positively fifth street by James McManus.

Prior to these books I hadn't read a full book since grade 9 shakespeare.

Re: First poker book you read?

Ken Warren's Winner's Guide to Texas Hold'em

Looking back I realize how bad it is compared to all the other books out there.

I think its simplicity was good for me though as it doesn't jam 100 different concepts down your throat. I pretty much did what youngin did and mostly use it for the starting hands. I'm kind of glad I had a few months of playing under my belt before reading the 2+2 books and others.

I've read like 15-20 books or so now and I think I've picked up a little something from every one of them.

Play Poker Like the Pros Hold'em sections are ugly. The starting hand guides for the other games are pretty good though.

It was PPLTP for me too. But I bought it for myself, it was the least expensive ot the books at the store. It did get me into limit poker, though, since by playing tight I became a winner at Stars micro limits.
I've got all the Sklansky hold'em books now, as well as Harrington's first two, both Super Systems, Phil Gordon's little green book, and Ace on the River by Barry Greenstein.
Just recently got Zen and the art of poker, (quite good).

Mike

Other than KW's they were all very good though Mcmanus' dragged here & there Andy's was defnitely entertaining.

Re: First poker book you read?

My first was SS1. When I started watching WPT a lot my brother took notice and bought it for me for my birthday, so I actually read a poker book before I even played it!

Hold 'Em Poker for Beginners - Sklansky and Malmuth
Hold 'Em Poker for Advanced Players

On order
HOH I, II, and III
Theory of Poker
Phil Gordon's Little Green Book

I know, don't read them all at once! TOO much information can be a bad thing!

Re: First poker book you read?

Super System 1. Started it but haven't finished it. I found it quite good and was trying to get through it before I played my first tournament. I didn't manage to finish it before the tournament though and haven't picked it up since. That was over a year ago now. I always find I go for the trashy novel or comic book instead.
