Chips: 6,850 | | | NLHETAP Discussion Dying -- Poll!! Well, I thought it was a good idea, but after the first thread, it seems that there is not too much discussion of NLHETAP going on. I hate to clutter up the board with useless threads (like this one). But I am at a loss as to what to do.
My gut feeling is that everyone is just behind in the reading, but let's try a poll. And please post your thoughts below.
Edit: the poll is set to privacy, so no one can see your choices! |

Chips: 5,690 | | | Re: NLHETAP Discussion Dying -- Poll!! It's going quickly for me. I actually have time to read the book (atlhough I haven't read IV yet) but it's really hard for me to find time to sit down and write what I want to post. I didn't get the book until after everything started and I've been playing catch-up the whole time. |

Chips: 6,850 | | | Re: NLHETAP Discussion Dying -- Poll!! OK -- it's pretty clear that not doing the reading is the main problem here; although the sample is small, I assume it is representative: only 7 voters, but 5 of 7 say it is because they are behind on reading.
How's this for a plan: take until Monday to catch up (read up through 130). And make discussions M-W and R-N for each section, making two sections a week instead of three. At this point, we are supposed to be about half-way through the first part of the book (about 120 pages with 110 to go).
Thoughts on this plan? |

Chips: 223 | | | Re: NLHETAP Discussion Dying -- Poll!! Sorry to stick my nose in, just happened to notice this post. I have never seen an online book discussion group (be it poker books over on 2+2, or sci-fi books on Usenet) that did more than ONE chunk per week. Anything faster is just too overwhelming for people trying to find spare time in their busy lives to read and participate.
In fact, IMO a strategy discussion could even work at the pace of one chunk per two weeks, at least for particularly complex chunks. Gives people time to read, think, post, think some more, maybe play a few hands, post again, etc. It's no tragedy to take a leisurely 2-3 months to get through the whole book, for maximum absorption. |

Chips: 6,850 | | | Re: NLHETAP Discussion Dying -- Poll!! Thanks for your input pankwindu -- I have never done an online book discussion before, so your insights are very welcome.
I personally wouldn't want to slow down to two weeks per chunk -- that seems a little TOO slow -- but I am open to the idea of one chunk per week. And yeah, summer is clearly bad, but the book just came out in early June... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
