The image immediately struck me when I saw it on amazon though.
Sorry to hear about you getting screwed, Jojo. |

1) Learn how to read hands. Well. Very well. Ungodly well.
2) Develop impeccable poker instincts.
3) Etc
4) Etc

Chips: 6,850 | | | Re: No Limit Hold'Em: Theory and Practice: Discussion Master Thread Indeed -- good post Yeltzen. That is one of the things I find most frustrating about the book -- it is obvious that to play NL well, you need to be able to read the other players' hands, but I have no idea how you can do it with such precision. Even putting them on a range seems much harder in NL than in limit.
I am going to update the OP later tonight -- clearly this discussion died, probably due to the summer. 2+2 has a discussion of NLHETAP going on now, and even they are having trouble getting discussion going -- I don't remember a book discussion there with so few posts. I don't know if it is a summer thing, or what. But I will try to get some more discussion going in September.
And congrats on the window! |

IMHO, most of the other things are basically their to increase your long term odds at winning. In any given hand, they don't mean much. By following the discipline(s) outlined in various books, you increase your odds of playing winning poker over the long term by making slightly better decisions than your opponents.
That being said, I've just started reading the book so hopefully I can add more to the discussions. |

5) Etc | i don't get why you think this is what it's about. i mean come on...if the guy calls your pot sized bet on a board like , and he's not an idiot, well then how many possible hands could he have? isn't it either a king or a flush draw?
there is a big section about betting when he could have several different draws...like if the villian above is capable of also having TJ...they acknowledge that its' a game of imperfect information, yadda yadda yadda.
i respect your game, boris, but i feel like sometimes when you make these posts (as i've seen you do, over the years, about sshe, hoh, and others) its to discourage others from reading/studying, while meanwhile you digest every page of every 2+2 book ever. |

I was obviously being sarcastic, even if I do sometimes feel like every other sentence I read is, "if you have a very good read on your opponent, then you can do this... otherwise, you can't" or that the book sometimes goes in circles.
I don't play cash games with any of you, so I don't care who reads what. Just like I don't care who buys what chips. That doesn't mean I won't comment on stuff. If someone bases their decision to buy or not buy something on some off-hand comment I make, then that's on them. I won't lose any sleep over it. |

The stuff at the end (concepts and weapons or whatever) seems pretty interesting.
