Chips: 7,134 | | | I Love Harrington On Hold'em!!!!!!! Okay back in like March and April I was playing my tournaments like the rank amateur I was. I would play in Party's $20+2 MTT every Saturday night. From March to the end of May I finished 34th, 27th, 21st, 108th, 20th, 28th, 244th, 31st, 31st, 19th, 22nd, and 72nd. The only time I finished out of the money was when I finished 244th. These are all tournaments that had 1600-2000 players in them.
So about June I decided that I had bought both HOHs so I should start reading them to help me reach the final table. So I read both diligently and would play in a $5 MTT every day and would add one or two concepts into my game. I finished them about the end of June and started playing in the $20+2 on Party again. The results have been fantastic!! Since the second week of July, I've finished 94th, 253rd, 918th, 655th, 190th, 247th, 53rd, and 790th! Amazing! Thank you Dan Harrington!!!! |

Chips: 12,759 | | | Congrats. I have also completed both books, but don't seem to have gotten as much benefit out of them as you have. Maybe I should read them both again. Or maybe I am just dumb. Goes to show what six years of college can do for you these days.

Chips: 7,134 | | Add 199th/202 to the list! Shortest tournament I've ever been in.
Didn't even make it past the registration closing. |

Chips: 111 | | Worse finish was being knock in first hand. I had AA in the bb and got all in vs a guy with J5 in the very first hand of a tournament. The board came up with a J & 5 without any A's showing up. |

Chips: 18,540 | | as a result of HOH, you are busting out early in tournies, eh? that makes sense, boris.
i know you're being sarcastic, but this is kind of a bad beat thread, isn't it? certainly the very conservative advice of HOH1 would not lead to early bustouts.
edit: as for the often very aggressive advice of HOH2, i'd say it's pretty easily misapplied (no offense, i'm just stating it as a possibility). in addition, you have a sample size of exactly ten trials to use as a measure. that seems to be a little, er, short term.
i'm sure it's the books' fault though. |

Chips: 18,540 | | | and to balance out my "you're wrong" post above, i'll say this. i think that HOH 1 and 2 are the best poker books i've ever read, and i think i'm a much better player in the last 6 months as a result.
in that time, my homegame bankroll (mostly $20 stts, and some $40s mixed in) has gone from $120 to $650 since i read HOH1.
that's a sample size of, i'd guess, 50 tournies, which isn't huge but isn't so bad either. |

But I have to agree with JoJo regarding HOH1...great poker book and the details put TJ Cloutier's No Limit book to shame |

And in the next paragraph he'll refer to a game where he called a raise in 5th pos w/ j,8. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
