The denominations can be either Cents of Dollars. You will seldom need a 5c chip and a $5 chip in the same game so a simple "5" chip can be both. By not adding decimals or "$" you get the added bonus of being able to use it for any currency as well, USD, Euros, etc ...
I agree completely. I use no $ on my chips, so that I can have a low stakes. If you need a $1, I use the 100. This way the chips can be used in any situation. As for tourneys, if you are starting at .01, it makes no sense, you might as well start at $1 as there is no "cash" value to the chips.

Like I have stated before, we need to keep the GB chips somewhat generic, as Joe needs to sell 50,000 chips. If you start having actual fractionals, we may lose many potential buyers.

no currency signs or decimals for me

As soon as I can get around to it,I plan on adding a 10,50 and a NCV.Might have to shuffle some of the colors around also.

Re: 30¢ Compression Clay from PI - Design Contest Round 2

Personally I like a 2500 or a 2000 chip instead of a 1000. Makes more sense to me in the progression ... from 500 to 2500 to 10000 ... why only double the 500 to 1000?

Just my 2cents ... err ... I mean just my "2"

I don't really feel like typing out a more precise description, but this is a simple one.

With the way the blinds move you usually only need to color up from 100 to 500, 500 to 1000, and 1000 to 5000. Much in the same way that there's no need to have a 200 chip, a 400 chip, or an 800 chip, there's really no use for a 2000 or a 2500 chip when you have 500's and 1000's. You can usually play anywhere from a 1-chip/2-chip blind (say 100/200 blinds, SB - 1 100 chip/BB - 2 100 chips) up to a 4-chip/4-chip blind (say 400/800 blinds, SB - 4 100 chips/BB - 1 500 chip w/ 3 100 chips) without being hassled. Once you break the 4-chip mark things become a bit messy.

Obviously as we've seen throughout the history of CT, personal preferences are the only way to go. But this is the reason why the "standard" is the way that it is for tournies. Obviously for casinos the origination of that same chip progression for their house sets came before tournaments, but the progression follows a precedent similar to the "ease" that comes along with a 5x chip. Obviously there's more financially-proven reasons to have certain chip denominations for house games (ah hem...$25).

Re: 30¢ Compression Clay from PI - Design Contest Round 2

In the interest poll that began this project Joe received commitments to purchase over 40,000 chips. If we eliminate the “depending upon the final design” qualifiers, the actual commitment is for less than 10,000. We have an amazing start thanks to the hard work of all our designers but this is not yet a done deal.

We each have an “ideal” set (I would love to have a 10¢ and a 10 chip for my Dealer’s Choice ‘Big Money’ games) but the purpose of this project is to design a set that will sell 50,000 chips. I will never discourage “what I would like” posts but please attempt to think of “what would sell the most chips”.

To help ‘guide’ the discussion, here are some suggestions;

Should this be;

Complete Set (one or two fractional and one or two large value chips)
Cash Set (lots of fractionals and lower value chips)
Tournament Set (lots of higher value chips)

The consensus seems to be towards a “Complete Set” but the discussion is still open in this regard. The consensus also seems to be for no denomination on the (Dollar) chips.
Things appear not so certain for the Fractional (s).
Should Fractional chip (s) be;

0.25
25¢
25c
¼
Quarter
No Fractionals

High denominations can be;

Traditional (500, 1000, 5000)
'Modern' Tournament (500, 2000 or 2500, 10000)

If we start with; 25c, 1, 5, 25, 100, 500, 1000, 5000, and a Non-Denom that still gives us one chip to decide upon (two chips to decide if Chocolate becomes available). It could be a second Non-Denom, 5c, 10c, 50c, 10, 20, 50, 10000, 20000, 25000, or something completely different i.e. Bounty, All – In, Show’em etc.

Everything is up for discussion! If there is not a Clear and Strong consensus on any matter I will start up the supplemental polls.

Again, please keep the frame of “what would sell the most chips”.

Thank you,
Shane

Re: 30¢ Compression Clay from PI - Design Contest Round 2

Can someone please clarify how the chips are being sold? e.g., as sets (500, 1000, 2000, etc.) or a la carte (pick your own colors and quantities)?

I was looking to pull out the stops on this set, and having chips with the actual value of .25, etc. for my low stakes cash game would be top notch. Using the low denom chips for tourneys was never under consideration (nor do I use 10,000 chips in my cash game ). Thanks to all!

These chips will be sold a la carte to quote you. There is another thread around here where we've started the discussion about denoms and final text that may make the chip.

Re: 30¢ Compression Clay from PI - Design Contest Round 2

Sorry to get a little off topic here but I was wondering if I can get my hands on some samples of these chips. I have had a little look but there are too many posts in too many threads for me to work it out.

Sorry for being lazy, but I am thinking of replacing my Bellagio Tributes with a couple of thousand of these and would like to check them out first by picking up 20 samples.
