Perhaps we could change the the flowery, iron design that goes on top and below each of the denominations to something else...something more in tune with a generic poker card room theme like different suites or playing cards. That's the only thing that I personally find a little "old-fashioned" in the entire design.
That's just my 2 cents worth....

Mike | I WAS going for a "Vintage" look for the chips and this detail provides an excellent vintage feel. I had actually originally tried the suits but had a couple of issues with it.
1. Didn't fit the overall style of the design (Vintage)
2. Began to look too much like the WSOP chips.
Additionally ...
It has been brought to my attention that at least one person believes that this design currently skirts the border of plagiarizing several designs (Speakeasy's, Samurai's, Apache (??), WSOP, and one other) and I have been asked to scrap this design entirely.
While I believe that this accusation holds absolutely no merit, It is not my desire or intent to even APPEAR to infringe on another designers work. Therefore I would like to steer very clear of including any further elements in a manner that may reflect any other chips' designs (such as the suits - WSOP). This label was designed without looking at or referencing ANY other chips. Just Photoshop, some custom shapes, and the concept of "simple vintage". So any existing similarities are completely coincidental.
Thanks,
Gary

Those accusations are ridiculous imo. |

Hi Gary. I looked up the supposed similar chips you mentioned. I don't know how anyone can see any similarities with your design and the samurai's and the apache's.
As for the speakeasy chips, the only common element with your design is the "iron flower" which it also uses in the design. So actually, if you want to steer clear of any unnecessary comparison, you may want to consider re-doing the "iron flower."
Again, that's just my personal take on things.
Thanks...Mike |

Thanks...Mike | I just got finished looking up those same chips. And although the Speakeasy chips do have a "iron flower" its use is very different from your design. There is no way the two designs could be confused. I don't think they could even be considered related. I wonder what the similarity to the Apaches was. |

I find the small text a bit hard to read at actual chip size. It is very easy to tell the colour of the chips the way you have done the labels and the denominations are easy to read. |

I had considered it. However, the "iron flower" as I use it, is provided STOCK with Photoshop Custom Shapes ('ornaments') and is available for use in the public domain. The designer of the Speakeasy chip, in fact, used this SAME custom shape, and further modified it by replacing the three tear drops in the top with a different element. The use of the "Iron Flower" here is therefore only a similarity.
While I don't want to invite NEW issues, I don't feel required to validate this accusation by modifying the ORIGINAL design because of their complaint. The current element successfully provides the Vintage look and feel I was attempting to achieve without violating any creative or ethical boundaries. I would consider changing it if the DESIGN required it. I don't believe that it does.
It sounds as though, perhaps you are not particularly fond of the vintage feel (not a problem, can't love everything ). I WILL see if I can find an element that may provide some acceptable 'middle ground', however, I don't want to compromise my original 'vision' for the chip.
