I did get really lucky at the end though...when we were all in the money I floped a straight and the only other guy with a big stack went all in with 2 pair.
It sure was nice to have better quality play than play money tourneys!
I also played a freeroll today on pokerroom and some dude went all in with crap 80% of the time and caught cards...I finally called him with a suited KQ and his offsuit 69 busted me out...I hate that!
I guess I could still expect this type of play for low stakes that I play, but not as much I hope.
I just put $100 down on pokerstars to play some tourneys.
Should I start with 10+1 or 5+/50? Will there be a big difference in quality of play?
Thx,
Play $5 for a while to "get your feet wet". Build your br up a little then go for the $10's. There is a little difference, but not much. There is a HUGE difference from the lower sng buy-in's.
Now Full-Tilt, that is one TIGHT site. I just finished a $10 sng (and won) where there was a strech of more than 20 hands without a showdown and every pot < 1000 chips at $100+ blinds.
Actually, I would say you are not going to notice much difference in play until you're ready to go above the $30+3 level. Even at $50+5 there are still a few clowns who seem like they are in a hurry to get all the chips or bust.

By lower do you mean $1 and $2 buy ins?
yep. down there you will see hands where everybody plays and people go all-in with A4o.
True that but to make it worse they will hit it
Oh man... don't get me started!
Today though there was one guy doing that at a $10 SnG on FullTilt. He was pissing everyone off going all-in every other hand. He eventually handed me all his chips and I ended-up winning the whole thing.

I see players like that way too often. Just makes me play a tighter game. What surprises me the most is that people call the all in's with garbage hands themselves. That's why those type of players look like they're getting lucky. I sit on my stack until I get a good pocket pair and then I make my move. I usually end up busting out the player in question after a few times heads up.
