Chips: 6,883 | | | Just starting out with online play for $$$, any suggestions? Im going to start playing for cash online, and am wondering what sites, limits and such to start out with. I am looking to start small and build a bankroll. Hopefully Ill be playing in next weeks Chiptalk tourney as well.
Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

Chips: 5,791 | | | If you are starting on the low limit tables, get used to a lot of suckouts and bad calls that payoff. Its just part of the game online.
Good luck. |

Chips: 29,466 | | | I suggest something like:
1) Deposit only as much money as you don't mind losing.
2) Play stakes where the maximum buyin is no more than 1/10 of bankroll.
3) Play extremely tight to start. This minimizes your variance while you get more comfortable with the game.

Chips: 177 | | | I did the same thing as you last month Boondocker.
I started with $40 on Pokerstars playing strictly $5 heads up and .05 .10 NL HE ($10 buy-in) to get a feel for it.
I got that up to $95 dollars within the first week playing like 30 minutes here and there. Currently I am at $70 on there. People really will call with about anything, so wait around and push hard with monsters.
I haven't played on there in a about a month, though.
Also, I have played on powerplayer.com with the promo code that a member here gave. This has proven to be much more profitable....I took the free $10 and I am up to $98.50 from playing $5 (and 1 $10) shorthanded SNG's (5 players, top 2 in the money).
These results are with little time to play/funds with summer college classes/work. So, I have made $128.50 in about a month and a half of playing for 30 minutes to an hour whenever I find the time.
Good luck!

Chips: 116 | | i tend to play only SNGs. it seems to help with the suckouts, you might lose big to a draw chaser, or find some jerkoff who raises anything, but you can always catch a big hand and make em pay you back. |

Chips: 13,254 | | | I play primarily on three sites. The order of fishy-ness, from most fishy to least fishy is:
1. FullTilt
2. UltimateBet
3. PokerStars
By far the best competition is PStars. Of course, this is highly dependeent on your level of play. Starting at the lower levels, its all pretty fishy. Play tight and you'll be fine. Play the Chiptalk tournaments and the cash games that follow. IN the cash games, try to never sit down with more than 10% of your total bankroll in play (not necessarily your bankroll for that site, but your overall poker bankroll). Have fun and learn. |

Have fun and learn. | Full Tilt is considered one of the better poker sites out there as far as players go...Pokerstars is considered one of the softest in the lower limits (.5/1 and down), but not as soft as Paradise or Party Poker.
Not sure why ya think Full Tilt is the fishiest....its actually a much tougher site player wise even at the lower limits.
If you want to play in the Chiptalk tournies then you need to play on Pokerstars. It is not a bad place for you to start out on. You can deposit as little as $25 via Neteller, though I would recommend starting with $100 so you get at least a $20 bonus from your initial deposit (20% bonus).
You can then play the .05/.10 cent tables to get your feet wet and win your roll up to about $150. Once you have $150 you can move up to .25/.50 cent tables and start earning that bonus (You cant earn it at .05/.10 but it is pretty vital you play those tables if you feel you need the practice to tune your game up).
Edit : And invest in Poker Tracker as soon as you possibly can. You can import up to 1000 hands for free, but after that you need to pay. The software is $55 to register and worth every single penny. |
