hk | I wonder if any Pros actually used the site to earn their seat, or if it's all dead money? |

Chips: 46 | | | The WSOP main event is dangerously, dangerously close to becomein a complete joke. It's going to become like one of these college football bowls that used to be a big deal back in the day, but now Cialis/Viagra/GalleryFurniture.com/etc have bought the naming rights and no one cares any more. It's becoming nothing but a crapshoot. One day, someone will say, "hey, I won a WSOP bracelet!" to which someone will reply, "who hasn't?" |

. . .
It's becoming nothing but a crapshoot. | I actually agree with you on this one
The skill in poker isn't in playing 1 or 2 hands great; its in playing smart over the long haul. Too bad that doesn't make for good sports drama. With so many players (aka crap) at the WSOP, the cream (real pro's) don't have much opportunity to rise to the top.
"and here we are on day 56 of WSOP Main event . . ."
I will add that I think online poker as also altered the landscape significantly because certain aspects of poker can be picked up much quicker by a much broader audience than ever before. |

Chips: 46 | | | I just don't find it very exciting to see the winner of poker's "biggest event" and say, "hey, that's the guy who hit two runner runner suckouts in a row to knock out Johnny Chan/Doyle Brunson at the final table!!!" |

Chips: 1,548 | | | Totally with you on this. Why don't the website give entries into the smaller tournaments?? Like the $2000 NL event?? I know people could come up with that kind of money on their own, but it would keep the web junkies from cheapening the Main Event! |

I don't think the skill necessary to win changes much as the field gets larger. The pros will still have ample opportunity to "rise to the top". And saying that dead money has won before isn't exactly true. Moneymaker and Raymer were more like semi-pros when they won. ...Well, that's what they say NOW. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
