The argument that they are off-shore and unregulated is just stupid. They have NOTHING to gain by rigging the games. It's just like a casino. Some people are paranoid that the casino's are rigging roulette wheels or dice in craps games, but it makes no sense. Online poker sites and casinos have NO REASON TO RIG THEIR GAMES. They are making so much money with the built-in odds (i.e. the rake) that rigging the game could only hurt them. On top of that, why would they rig the game only for certain people, and WHY would they rig freakin' .5/1 or 1/2 games

I find it humorous that some people will think that "XXX" amount of money is enough, and they are happy to get that.
Lets say you sell a widget. And it sells for 99¢ It costs you 23¢ to make that widget.
You average selling 250 widgets a day, 365 days a year.
That's $90,337 gross sales per year, net of $69,350
Now you add the sales tax of say 7.75% (which you collect and then pay back) to the $90K gross and that adds another $7K to your total collections.
So you are now grossing about $97K and after state and income taxes actually getting to spend about $45K of your earnings.
Now you decide to "rake" a little higher and add 1% to the sales tax (which some people do, illegally) and charge 8.75% sales tax but only have to pay back 7.75% to the state.
You've just made about $1000 for doing nothing, and not increased the perceived price of your product, past the original 99¢ price tag.
But it is illegal and can't be done without reprocussions.
If you could do this, and get away with it, why would you not?
That $45K take-home could be a dream come true to some readers here, and just the cost of "this years car" to others.
Money is relative.
If you have hundreds you want thousands.
If you have thousands you want hundreds of thousands.
If you have hundreds of thousands you want millions.
And well if you have millions, you want billions.
Don't ever think that because a company "makes a ton of money" that they are not looking for ways to make TONS more. They are not "nice guys providing a cool service to make you happy so they can buy new skateboards and all the baseball cards they want." They are corporate juggernauts out to squeeze every penny they can out of your pocket and put it into theirs.
Once again, I'm NOT saying they DO rig the games, just that it would be SO FREAKING EASY for them to do, and to make a totally unnoticed (and unregulated and untaxed) extra 1-2% per day would be way too simple. It's all in the software, and can be completely controlled.
Just like they do with slot machines. Which are rigged you know, right? Rigged to hit or not, maybe not exactly
when to hit, but they can tighten them and losen them at will to pay more or less.
Do you actually think that casinos are happy with what they take from you and are not actively spending millions of dollars every year to figure out how they can take more of it LEGALLY? These on-line poker places don't have that worry. No one to police them but themselves. No rules but their own.
Plain and simple. If a business can take your money (especially more than you intended to spend) and have you leave with a smile on your face, they will. And sleep well at night counting the bills instead of sheep.
Oh and on a side note, I've been using the same Visa card to shop on-line since the early 90's. Even have the number memorized I've had it so long. I have made hundreds of transactions and spend 10's of thousands of dollars unfettered via the internet.
A few months ago I put a few dollars (like $50) into a Net-teller account and thentranferred it into a Pokerstars account.
Within 2 weeks my credit card company was calling me DAILY asking me about suspicious purchases from Spain, Italy, and other countries. I had to shut down the card and get a new one. Coincidence? Perhaps, but never again will I put one penny into on-line gambling.
