I agree with you about the suckouts, though. It sure feels rigged when it happens to you online. How quickly do you chalk it up to hard luck when playing at a table, though? I think it's just like anything virtual vs. real life. In our day and age we have become programmed to believe that any thing in the video game realm is pre-determined by those who coded it.
CaptLego, that Cigital article was a great read. Thanks. |

Chips: 5,871 | | I've also come to the realization that horrible suck outs are just part of the game when playing online. This is one of the reasons I play smaller limits online than I ever would in the real world.
I think part of the problem is that when you're playing online, you never know how much the other person values the money they are playing with. I play differently at the .01/.02 tables than I do at the $1/$2 tables. Why? The cost of making a bad call is pretty minor compared to the opportunity to get that 1-outter to hit the 7-high str8flush.
I'm of the opinion that for poker to be enjoyable, the stakes have to be enough to make you think about the money you are throwing in. In my case, .01/.02 isn't enough to worry about while 1/2 upto 5/10 is enough and 10/20 and above is too much. In a perfect world, it shouldn't matter what stakes you play but that's not the real world. I would hazard a guess that winner in the first hand I posted above wouldn't have called 2 raises preflop with 87s if it were a 10/20 table instead of a .25/.50 table UNLESS HE KNEW HE WAS GOING TO FLOP THE NUT BOAT WITH AN 87 |

Chips: 46 | | | Holy hell... the whole problem with this post is that you, for whatever reason, think the people you're playing against are thinking like you. They aren't aware that calling 2 bets cold and then a reraise is a bad move with 87s. All they see is 87s and say, "hey, this is a suited connector! I saw so-and-so win a huge pot with one of these on WPT this week!" They don't think about what your hand is, they just call and get lucky. It happens man, but that doesn't mean it's rigged.
The argument that they are off-shore and unregulated is just stupid. They have NOTHING to gain by rigging the games. It's just like a casino. Some people are paranoid that the casino's are rigging roulette wheels or dice in craps games, but it makes no sense. Online poker sites and casinos have NO REASON TO RIG THEIR GAMES. They are making so much money with the built-in odds (i.e. the rake) that rigging the game could only hurt them. On top of that, why would they rig the game only for certain people, and WHY would they rig freakin' .5/1 or 1/2 games?
If you think long and hard, I'm sure there's been a time you cracked aces with a horrible hand. It's easier to blame a site being rigged, but just be honest with yourself: you got unlucky. |

- having to put an email out at least a week in advance,
- hope people that RSVP really do show,
- hope that not a lot of people that didn't RSVP show,

- count out chips,
- hope I don't screw up the buyins or payouts in someone else's favor,
- clean the basement the next morning |

Actually, my biggest problems are the euchre players taking a leak on the front lawn. They actually give poker players a good name.
I think the thread has been officially hi-jacked now but that's ok its MY thread. |
