Chips: 1,186 | | | anybody ever play Hubble's freeroll's at P*? If so, what's a good strategy when you're in pretty good shape with 2000 to go out of 12,000 starters? I'm in 150th place right now and the top 99 go on to some other tourney with a fairly big prize pool. I'm not much of a tourney player, especially online ones and entered this on a lark. Do I just sit tight and not mix it up much? Play is incredibly loose. Folks are AI pre-flop with hands like A-10 offsuit. Blinds now are 100/200 with $20 antes and I've got T21k. Any and all advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

Chips: 1,186 | | | Re: anybody ever play Hubble's freeroll's at P*? Wow, things do change quickly in these freerolls. Just since posting the OP there are now 1675 players remaining and I'm now in 245th position.

Chips: 1,186 | | | Re: anybody ever play Hubble's freeroll's at P*? Well, I'm still winging it, but have dropped placement considerably. My A-K was up against an A-5 all-in with an ace on board, but he got a 5 on the river and took a huge chunk of my stack. I'm now 330th out of 1200 remaining with T18k. Blinds are 200/400 with $50 antes now. Guess most of you guys are much better online tourney players than to even waste your time on such a crap shoot.

Chips: 1,186 | | | Re: anybody ever play Hubble's freeroll's at P*? It's a moot point now as I'm out in 709th place. I was not getting any hands and the rapidly escalating blinds were killing my stack so I went AI with pocket 9s on the button against the UTG player who raise 3x BB. Everybody else folded. He turned out to have pocket kings. A-Q-10 on the flop and he turned the Ace high straight and my tourney ended. Crazy tourney though, extremely fast paced.
edit - fix typo

Chips: 946 | | | Re: anybody ever play Hubble's freeroll's at P*? The field narrows down quick the first 20 minutes of play. It's a free roll so you know there are lots of donkey players. I've placed 99 and under about 5 times in the tournament. The 2nd round is a bit tougher. What sucks is that , the 2nd round may not always be hold em. The last time I played I placed 3rd, and I was given a seat in the 2nd round for 7 card poker.......I am terrible at 7 card poker. Probably the worse game I can play next to Razz.
I think it doesn't matter what position you are in when there are 1K+ players left. It matters a lot when there are about 200 players left. That's when things get really slow. I mean it takes about 15 min for a player to get out. When there are 105 players left forget it, if you're in a good chip position (like 10K above the average) you might as well sit out until you make it 99 and under. From there is doesn't matter what position you bust out. Winning 99 is just as good as winning 1st.

Chips: 1,186 | | | Re: anybody ever play Hubble's freeroll's at P*? Thanks for that insight Imperial, it is most helpful. I am looking on it as a good experience and I got a lot of hands under my belt playing for free. That's always good. By the way, the 2nd round was Pot Limit Omaha high for this particular freeroll. Thanks again.

Chips: 263 | | | Re: anybody ever play Hubble's freeroll's at P*? I try and "play" one of these a few times a week. By "play" I mean I either (a) sit out for the first 1/2 hour to narrow the crazies out of the field, or (b) go AI as soon as I have a strong hand - I'm either out and haven't wasted my time or I double up and can play more sound poker.
Best finish is 6th out of 12,000. Once the bubble bursts, everyone goes all in every hand since the 99 left all have tickets to the next level. |

Chips: 6,501 | | | Re: anybody ever play Hubble's freeroll's at P*? the freerolls have 6 minute blinds so you have to play a bit loose at the beginning and hope to luck out in the early going.
i've qualified 2 times recently (i actually won a razz tourney). you get a ticket that you can redeem for ANY round 2 tourney. it doesn't have to be during the week that you qualified.
as a matter of fact, i think they have 2 round 2 freerolls each week. one on saturday, the other on sunday. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
