Not too bad a payday to cap off the day off of work. |
Wow was that long -
The last had was a real thinker. But I think the set up was this -
I was 9/12 (or therabouts) with 500/1000 blinds. I had 20K+ish so in no real danger. Villian had less than 2x my stack - but was pretty healthy. Maybe 40K?
The guy on my left had been sitting out. I took his blinds for two rotations - and the last rotation, I had stolen the villains BB as well (the guy sitting out was on his right - so no protection).
So - he might have put me on a steal.
Action on the hand - I had AAJ7 with a suited A (the 7 is a question - but is inconsequential). I was in the SB. I was going to raise the pot regardless of action ahead of me (ala Farha). All fold to the SB - so I raise (not sure if I potted - but it was more than 1/2 pot). He goes into the tank a bit - and raises. I hear the fireworks going off as I insta shove (with whispers of Farha in my ear - his book is pretty good if you can sort through the commentary and focus on the strategy tips).
My shove was prety darn big, I think that he had to call 12K or so. Fold equity was there if he was on a steal. He calls pretty quick so I am looing for AA vs AA (maybe KK - but that is REALLY a donkey move) or some kind of wrap like 6789.
Nah - he flips up the all powerful A579 (NO suits)
Man - now I am thinking deep final table. One good Omaha gem is that when a player is willing to get the $$$ in quick preflop - ya gotta give them credit for AA. Now - if you give them cerdit for AA - well, any A in your hand is BAD. Especially if not suited. The math is below - assuming that I had a rag as my last card. 67% for me - jumps by 5% if I did match his 7.
So - I am loving this - as it is one of the times when you really have holdem catbird thing going like AA vs TJ.
flop - xx5,
No real straight possibilities for him - so I am rooting for a paired board to eliminate 2p beating me.
Course - the turn pairs the board - but not the one I wanted. No one outer on the river for me (lol - I did hit the J) - and I go out in 12 (think it was 12).
This hand is a perfect example of why I am starting to LOVE the Omaha tourneys. Lots of players with no real clue of hand values - or even how to play AA. Most take way to many chances with three card hands - and are really willing to pay you off on average flops when they have no redraws. Unlike HE - there are usually a ton of limpers in every hand - so you can just sit back and wait for the premium starters and outplay people after the flop.
Course - would have been better if they held up - but then I would have had to stay awake for another hour.
The last hand in the HE rebuy was much less climatic, but still one of thise head scratchers. I shove with KJsuited (I was getting way low) - and the BB calls 40% of his chips with the all powerful 44. While I can see someone with a big stack doing this (even though I still believe it is incorrect) - to me ti is a real headscratcher why anyone would rick crippling their stack on what could AT BEST be a coinflip.
