I should probably never have limped with the f'in jacks to begin with. It's just such a crap-shoot playing these games. Trying to ascertain where you stand in a hand is close to impossible at these stakes online. At least for me it is. Quote:

Your flop check must have really thrown him off and made him believe you were bluffing the turn and river -- I mean who would ever check a flopped top two pair
I actually saw this exact line of betting when I was playing the NL25 game last night on P*. Enjoy it but be ready to take a bad beat (potentially).

Chips: 1,186 | | | Re: an example of why conventional wisdom fails when playing low-stakes online games. No worries there, I have been burned sooooo many times when two pair don't hold up that I rarely, if ever count on it. Even big bets attempting to protect flopped two-pairs don't seem to make much difference. It seems that many folks just get it in their heads how they're going to play hands based on their hole cards and don't veer from that track. Kind of odd when you consider that there are 5 cards to come potentially. Quote:

He firmly believes that showing strength by betting is all that is required to succeed at poker. He does it with good, mediocre and bad cards. He wins lots of money that way. It's a method of play that works really well often against tight players who aren't willing to go all the way with less than the nuts or at least near-nuts. Quote:

Chips: 1,186 | | | Re: an example of why conventional wisdom fails when playing low-stakes online games. This time somewhat conventional play by me actually paid off. Please tell me though why oh why anybody would play A-10 offsuit in such a manner? I mean I understand that the player had the button so that counts for something. It's also an Ace and I suppose it might look like a fairly strong one to some. That could possibly explain the very aggressive pre-flop play. Then the flopped gut shot happens and the player thinks that's a sign to turn what could have been a $3 call into a $24 AI. I just don't get it.
