Importing PT2 database into PT3

OK - am I missing something?

So - my PT2 database is in the old (non SQL format).

I installed PT3

PT3 will not see/import the old database. This is when I found the need to have this in the newer DB form (SQL I believe).

So - I open PT2 - the export to SQL does not work (rings up form fill in the blank form that I do not have entries for).

Try to export the hands (the recommended method on the PT forum).

PT3 still does not see the hands.

What am I missing?

I have a special folder for the hands exported from PT2 - is there a default location that should be used (some search path that I am missing?)

Do you load the P2 exported hands by using the "import P2 database" menu pick ? - or is there another command that I am missing?

Sigh - 2 years of neglecting the PT database and I am paying the price. I would like to upgrade - but not if I lose all my old hands.

Later

Re: Importing PT2 database into PT3

I manually imported all of my original hand histories and tournament summaries, which fortunately I still have on my computer. Some of the data now available in PT3 are not retrievable from the PT2 database; this is the only way to capture everything. (Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear.)

After the imports, I did spend a few hours to tweak the data. Most of the FTP tournaments lacked results, which had to be entered manually, and many of the tournament types (MTT, SNG1table, SNG2table, etc.) were incorrect. Well worth the time.
Sometimes being a pack rat has its advantages.

Re: Importing PT2 database into PT3

it's been awhile since i switched over to postegrez (or whatever it's called), so i'm not completely with you at the moment, W. but...my experience with PT's forums has been really good. by it's nature (as a for profit business) it tends to be very responsive and friendly. i'd bet you'd find some good step by step stuff over there.

Re: Importing PT2 database into PT3

Dave,

Not sure what to tell you, I just did a test using the method on the PT forum and it worked fine.

PokerTracker • View topic - Tutorial: Convert PT2 non postgresql database to PT3

I will say that I did what Marsha did and that was to create a new database in PT3 and manually import all of my old hand histories, but then I had to do some tweaking.

Chuck

LOL - DOH -

Thanks chuck - this was the exact thread that I was using for my "instructions" - but missed the part at the end regarding manual imports. I should have rechecked the instructions, but I was at work and did not think I could see pokertarcker through the firewall. I figured it was some stupid step that I was missing - and I was right.

Abby - not as big as a packrat. I have some of the HH - but did not actively tweak or review much during school. Just had the data mining and HUD going - but not a lot of time for refining. Mostly deleted the HH themselves, because I figured the data was already in PT.

Re: Importing PT2 database into PT3

Is PT3 that much better than PT2? I'm using PT2 at the moment, and haven't really felt any need to switch over.

I've also heard things such as PT3 not having autorate?

yet.

it's somewhere in the vicinity of 1000x better, i'd say. integrated hud, much smoother running, graphs, customizeable reports, less resource-intensive imports...it's studly.
