Re: Best Pre-flop raise EVAR!!!

Expert play, IMHO.

There is no reason to risk your tournament life with jacks so early. Just
take down the blinds and move to the next hand.

Re: Best Pre-flop raise EVAR!!!

My friend sees that at the $3 tournies every once in awhile. Sometimes it's AA wondering if he can get some random donkey to double him on the first hand.

I usually don't like giving away all of my nano-level secrets (lol), but if you're
playing in a freeroll or $3 or under tournament and you get AA or KK on the
first hand... it should be an automatic shove.

This was from the freeroll WSOP qualifier last night:

Poker Stars, NL Hold'em Tournament, 10/20 Blinds, 6 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter

bill t 44 (BTN): 1,520
FireDudeT3 (SB): 1,480
hawks47 (BB): 1,500
KDogg_All_in (UTG): 1,500
JoseRijo27 (MP): 1,500
40mmThumper (CO): 1,500

Pre-Flop: (30) Kd Ks dealt to JoseRijo27 (MP)
KDogg_All_in calls 20, JoseRijo27 raises to 1,500 and is All-In, 6 folds, hawks47 calls 1,480 and is All-In, KDogg_All_in folds

Flop: (3,030) 7c Ts 5s (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

Turn: (3,030) 2s (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

River: (3,030) Jd (2 Players - 1 is All-In)

Results: 3,030 Pot
hawks47 showed Ah Td (a pair of Tens) and LOST (-1,500 NET)
JoseRijo27 showed Kd Ks (a pair of Kings) and WON 3,030 (+1,530 NET)

Unfortunately, that was my only big hand for the tournament and I finished
about 175th.

What would have been a good sized bet to take down the blinds with JJ?

I've had mixed sucess with JJ.

I guess one school of thought is that if you're gonna play them (and that's the critical decision made, already) then you should play them hard pre-flop.

Or should you play them like a middle pair and back off if the flop doesn't hit you?

Re: Best Pre-flop raise EVAR!!!

With blinds at 10/20, my standard raise is x4 = 80. You can still treat
it like a middle pocket pair if you are re-raised, called by multiple opponents,
or played-back on the flop.

Re: Best Pre-flop raise EVAR!!!

It's easy to tell when I have JJ pre-flop. It's because they get insta-mucked after a non min-raise.

Personally I like that play there.

Did he try to type in 80 but hit an extra key? Probably not, but I've seen (oops, and done) that.
