Chips: 18,540 | | | p* wsop steps: follow my path to 10 million or, more likely, not .
so the way these work, there are 6 steps. if you finish first or second in the satellite, you move up. step 6 is a 2k tournament where the winner gets 12.5k (10k entry to the main event and 2.5k spending money).
before realizing that day 1a is the day of our 2nd child's birth this summer, i started playing steps. good news: if i can't talk my wife into letting me go (current chance of such a thing: 1.5%), it's no big deal b/c p* can't buy you in. they just put the monies in your p* account.
so here's how it's gone so far.
step 1: $7 entry - tourny no problemo move on in first try
step 2: $27 - went out 3rd JJ < AT. this won me another ticket to a step 2
second try: booya. very bad bubble play moves me into the top 2. i'm on to step 3
step 3: $82 - failed in first try. working to get back.
step 4: $215
step 5: $700
step 6: $2100

good news: these guys don't know what the heck they're doing.
bad news: who knows what they're gonna call me with. i'll need hands.

Chips: 11,925 | | | Re: p* wsop steps: follow my path to 10 million PM me when you get to Step 6. I've made it to Step 5 twice, am currently at Step 4 and one of my crew is playing Step 6 this weekend.
This is the *easiest way of making the big dance. Or at least some nice coin for very few dollars worth of risk.
EDIT: Steps 1-3 sucked for me, because I hate turbos. The best advice I can give about these is if you've built a reasonable stack and there's 4 or 5 people left, play a little tighter and watch yourself freeroll to the next level. A lot of people playing these cannot grasp the simple concept that you don't need to "win" to move on. I can't tell you how many times I watched the guy with the lead implode because he made a stupid move on the button 3-handed.
*short of buying in for the full $10k.

But this looks like a really good structure IMO. It's not winner take all, and you have chances to repeat your step even if you don't move forward. Lots of play for your $$$ (but you can't finish 6th!). I'll probably get into this at some point....
Good luck jojo! |

A kid I play live 5/5NL with just got back from EPT Italy tourney that he won entry to through the steps on P*. He was chip leader for two days, but finished 64th. Still, he made money and had a nice trip to Italy.

Chips: 18,540 | | | Re: p* wsop steps: follow my path to 10 million it's not going well.
got back to step three and busted back down again. since then, have played 2 more step 1s in which i busted early-ish.
first one, flopped trip jacks and old boy hit a 2 outer for a boat on the turn to bust me.
second one, flopped middle set against a flopped straight AND an oesd/flush draw allin on the flop. busto.
so...thus far, i'm in for 4 buyins. i'm on my 5th step 1 now. could be this'll be trickier than i had expected |

the third guy (relax) is pretty bad too.
yeah, as i said, this only says that they're bad, not HOW they're bad. but if PT tells me that the guy's playing 30% of his hands and raising 24% of the time, it could conceivably be that he's picking up lots of hands.
once i see the SS numbers and see that he's a big loser, chances go from somewhat possible to not bloody likely.
i agree, though, with the implied point...sharkscope doesn't say much except whether the guy wins or loses. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
