.25/.50 NL 9max P* hand

To those with weak stomachs..I play pretty bad, so prepare for some questionable plays being made. Ultimately the question I have is at the end of the hand..but I'd like some opinions leading up to play after the river as well. Plus, it's more fun this way

I've been running a little poorly in tournaments recently, so I decided to play some short stack cash games. Bought into this game for $10, already got a double up and a half with AA UTG.

PokerStars Game #14925721008: Hold'em No Limit ($0.25/$0.50) - 2008/01/30 - 00:28:30 (ET)
Table 'Pasiphae IV' 9-max Seat #2 is the button

darreljanh: posts big blind $0.50

Stockwiz469: folds
AKosar2: raises $1 to $1.50
brian3888: folds
DukeDevil31: calls $1.50
BCThunder1: folds

AKosar was the one who doubled me up, and has been playing a little LAG. Duke, on the other hand, has been playing pretty tight, and has more money in front of him. I've taken two small pots away from AKosar by re-popping him pre-flop with TT and AQ in position. Action on me, call, fold..is there an argument for a raise?

Re: .25/.50 NL 9max P* hand

Personally, I'm a wimp and I'm going to fold it. I'm aware that it's a hand that you want to see a flop with a few players involved in the same hand but.......

Flop comes you hit a small piece..do you bet if it's checked to you?

You bet & get reraised by the LAG or the TAG, fold or call?

Turn, it appears to be a safe card, do you call an all in by the LAG?

Re: .25/.50 NL 9max P* hand

your stack is big enough that you can call and see a flop, but obviously there is nothing wrong with just folding the hand.

As to raising: If player 1 had tight 3-bet calling standards, and player two also plays fairly tight in 3-bet pots you could try a squeeze play and 3-bet to about $5. But I don't like it much at 25nl full ring. Especially without some more detailed reads or stats on those guys.

AKosar raised UTG+1 and even if he is playing LAG that is sign of decent strength at a full table. Move him to MP and the CCer to the HJ or CO and I think a squeeze has some merit. Also at NL25 people are much more likely to call a 3-bet and a take a flop then they might be at NL200 and up. Really the squeeze here is just too likely to backfire and blow up in your face. The blinds could wake up with a hand, either of the other two players could call or reraise, and you may end up spewing postflop.

Also I think you should take into consideration a few things you wrote in your OP. You think you have holes in your game, and you got to a full stack by short-stacking. It sounds to me like you may not be comfortable playing 100bb deep right now. And there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone has to learn the game at their own pace, through trial and error. If the best thing for your game is to short-stack and build some confidence and your roll then that is what you should do. And based on those thoughts my advice would be first to fold this hand, and second to leave the table and go buy-in short at another table.

Don't get me wrong, I think it will only make you a better player to learn to play with full stacks. And if you think this is a good time and table then by all means you should go for it. But while you are still getting comfortable it would probably help to a player a little tighter and just fold preflop these speculative and difficult hands.

So I would call or fold, but I think raising won't really be +EV here.

Hope some of that helps, and glad to see you back on the strat forums!

gl on the tables

It's $50NL and with only 50bb do we have the correct odds to call a raised pot with 6c7c?

I suck at this stuff and really want to learn.

Re: .25/.50 NL 9max P* hand

Fold. That's the best play.

Obviously you didn't do that since there's more to this hand.

Small suited connector on the button is a nice hand to see a cheap flop. So maybe you call here, but a raised-called pot probably means you have to hit a miracle flop. If you want to spew some money in hope of getting real lucky, then so be it.

I don't re-raise here because you have two raisers in front of you and two blinds to go. I suspect at least one player of those four will call you, and that's not what you want with a re-raise.

Its questionable but I'm a lag at heart so I call if think the SB/BB will only fold or call. Short of flopping 2pr+ or some sort of combo draw, I'm not leading at this pot.

Re: .25/.50 NL 9max P* hand

I had the box checked to leave on the next blind, and then this hand came up. To tell you the truth, hands like this are what ran me to broke in the past. Getting fancy play syndrome at small stakes online cash games. I had gotten my stack well past what I wanted it to be, but wanted to stick around to see some free cards before the blinds. I'm comfortable playing a full stack at these stakes, but in the back of my mind I know I shouldn't be. I'm rolled for $10NL, and was playing a few .05/.10 9max tables as well as this one higher table.

I've sat about 6 full rotations at this table so far. I've played 5 pots. 1 was AA, the only hand I had to show. I got re-raised off of 1 small pot from the BB when I hit top pair, led out, then got raised and re-raised. The other three pots, I re-popped AKosar to $4 when he raised to $1.50 in MP and CO+1, and won the blinds on a raise from the button.

I'll give it a little more time before moving on to the next stage for some more replies. Thanks for the advice so far!

Re: .25/.50 NL 9max P* hand

for those that recommend fold, you should also be folding 22-77 here, b/c they're about the same. SC's are a little trickier, but not all that much. and we're calling off only 4% of our stack.

take a flop once in awhile!

If you were full stacked then raise it up. Seeing that you have 50 bbs (why!?) fold and wait for aces I suppose

I'd take a flop. Position, decent hand, implied odds yada yada.

Edit: What's the flop?
