Re: how do you play pocket Kings?

Almost all the time,* I play KK like you did -- raise a bunch pre-flop to thin the field. After the flop, play aggressively based on the texture of the flop. In this case, let those Queens (luckily for you there were 2 of them!) give you their money. If an Ace falls on the flop, proceed cautiously but don't give up.

Nice to get Aces 3 hands later, too.

* OK, once in a while you might have a maniac to your left who will always raise preflop, in which case you might slow-play -- limp, re-raise. Same for a short stack. But don't get burned!

Nicely played. Quite frankly, I don't know what a couple of those people were thinking staying in like they did.

It's nickel / dime crap. It's amazing how often everything gets called down at that level.

Re: how do you play pocket Kings?

I'd play 'em the way you did for the Kings. But why the slower pre-flop approach three hands later? Were you trying to reel more in?

Re: how do you play pocket Kings?

Yeah, I had a similar situation a few days ago. I build up a nice stack, last hand I get KK, I raised, somebody reraisesd, I pushed, TWO CALLER, AQ and A8 and the A hit on the flop.....

Why? I made a proper raise preflop, that I raise him bet on the flop, check my added Nutflush draw on the turn and fired again on the river. I wanted to get payed. But I should have punished him for calling with a J8 off suit.

And this those hands on those low limits all you can do is fire, fire, fire. Don't tray any plays, the players there don't know equity or odds.

Good point.

I guess what I was wondering was why not a slightly higher bet pre-flop - in line with your perceived value of the Kings?

Maybe I'm just too aggressive (it has certainly cost me in my last two starts). LOL.

Re: how do you play pocket Kings?

I think I would had played the aces more aggressive if I hadn't tripled up on the Kings a few hands earlier.
I mean, you triple up on Kings, and two hands later you get aces, somehow I was like "wow, okay..... easy" Maybe I didn't want to loose a big pot with my "fresh earned" money. I dunno.
But as it turned out, he might have folded his middle pair to a higher raise or bet.

Re: how do you play pocket Kings?

I play them hard pre flop, been donked to many times to count so I raise 4-6x bb. Post flop I am very cautious. I worry about sets, straights etc. If there is three to a straight or flush I take extra caution. This is pretty standard I think. I do NOT limp with them and let the guy with 3-6 offsuit flop a straight.

Re: how do you play pocket Kings?

You shouldn't worry too much. If you put them on a straight or a flush, they many time just have top pair with an average kicker.
I used to play the same way and I couldn't really get thing going. Up to NL25 or maybe even NL50 you really have to understand that about 80% of the players don't trap and also don't play value bets or stuff like that.
I they think their hand is good, they call or bet.
If they think they have the nuts, they raise.
I they think their hand's not good, they usually fold, or maybe bluff.
If you have a good hand, but not a very good hand and somebody put ins a big raise, you simply have to fold.
Do not try to bluff expect you can be sure that your opponent folds in 9 out of 10 times.
