the idea is that if you lost $50 that means that if you had won the pot you would have won $50. So they no only reimbursed people for their losses, but actually gave them back money they would have won had they won the pots. Of course the math has been questioned in a lot of spots, a lot of players feel like they got everything back, some felt like they didn't get enough.
I'm sure reverberations will be heard for awhile, but as expected online poker marches on.

I was right there with ya. I don't think AP even came up in the recent congressional hearings. Overreacting is natural (because that's what "media" teaches us), so I don't fault anybody for his or her "sky is falling" attitude.
