What's your sweet-spot for % of hands played in passive low-stakes online NLHE?

I play mostly very small stakes cash games online - .10/.25 NLHE. Sometimes .25/.50. Often the games can be pretty passive pre-flop allowing for seeing lots of cheap flops. That obviously lends itself toward playing too many hands and I have to check myself regularly to use a bit of restraint in that regard.

Wondering what others consider a good % of hands played ratio in such games to be.

Caveat - the opposite effect can also occur in such games where lots of ultra-aggressive nuttiness goes on pre-flop and in such games I tend to keep my % down below 20%. The more passive low stakes game is what I'm referring to here.

Full Ring or 6max? If FR, why are you playing FR?

Been a while since I played in a loose passive game, but I tended to raise limpers.

Depends 100% on the opponents. If you're at a completely standard table but a huge donator sits down and you have position on him, it can completely change.

Full ring. Opponents are mostly loose-passive and most are limping pre=flop.

Re: What's your sweet-spot for % of hands played in passive low-stakes online NLHE?

I was playing lots of .25/.50 NL 6 max when I started NL few months ago. My VP$IP was around mid 20's. For a FR game of LP's, I would say in the low 20's but I would be tighter in EP and loosing up in later position. ie, I would fold KT, QT UTG but play 64o on the button.

Re: What's your sweet-spot for % of hands played in passive low-stakes online NLHE?

I've been playing a lot of 1/2 NL 6max on FTP and AP lately. I typically play about 31/25. I attempt to steal the blinds around 40% of the time.

It is a highly aggressive style that focuses on taking advantage of dead money limpers, restealing from TAGs who are stealing, and squeezing when there are raisers and cold callers. I also think it makes playing at the table very easy, as everyone is constantly reacting to you, and you are maximizing your fold equity in any pot you play.

Very interesting style Jim and it sounds like it's working for you. Is the 31 or the 25 the main percentage of hands played to total hands dealt though?

the 31% is the number of hands where I voluntarily put money into the pot. either limping, raising, calling a raise, whatever. If I see a free flop from the blinds that doesnt count, but otherwise that all goes into that first number (usually abbreviated VPIP).

the 25% is the % of hands that I am raising preflop. So I raise about a quarter of my hands pf. I also raise between 35-50% of my hands in the CO and on the button when folded to me, mostly in an attempt to steal the blinds.

Thanks Jim. I've heard of the VPIP so that makes sense now. Could I ask what software you use to track such metrics? I'm assuming you do use something.
