Chips: 5,913 | | | playing like a maniac is fun so after watching some instructional videos from some high stakes pros, and doing little practice, I took a shot at playing super-LAG at the 1/2 NL tables at FTP.
I had a small win, mostly because I misplayed two hands horribly. But by the end I was starting to get the hang of it. The result of course, is you end up playing hands like this against guys that a) play horribly and b) assume you are as well.
i 4-bet resqueezed preflop because I figured the SB could only call with a huge hand since he had just sat down and didnt know that I was playing 42/39 (vpip/pfr) and because I knew that I was waaay ahead of BB range (he was playing 65% of his hands). I also knew that BB thought I had total crap because I had won a hand against him earlier when I reraisd a TAG preflop with J8o, and he called $24 pf with A6o and then I flopped a pair and we checked it down and he lost a $60 pot with A high.
so when he 5-bet shoves I know that he likely has crap, and I'm getting 4-1 to call. Obviously super easy call.
here's the hand with the results at end:
Full Tilt Poker $1/$2 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players
Hand Converter Tool from Master Internet Poker with Strategy Articles, Poker Training Videos, and Expert Poker Coaching
BB: $154.60
UTG: $155.65
MP: $208.85
CO: $203.15
Button: $194.00
SB: $198.00
Preflop: Hero is CO with Ac, 9s
UTG folds, MP folds, Hero raises to $7, Button folds, SB raises to $25, BB calls $23, Hero raises to $85, SB folds, BB raises to $145, Hero calls $60.
Flop: ($315.00) 5c, 7h, Tc (2 players)
BB bets $9.60 (all in), Hero calls $9.60.
Turn: ($334.20) 6c (2 players)
River: ($334.20) 2h (2 players)
Final Pot: $334.20
Results:
BB shows Kh, 3h (King Ten high).
Hero shows Ac, 9s (Ace Ten high).
Outcome: Hero wins $331.20.
($3.00 Rake)

Watch out. I tried some of this at the .5/1 at FT, and got my ass handed to me by trying to bet people off who don't get bet off. On the GP/rugby vids, they kept iso raising the fish and making money, but when I tried this, all I ended up doing was bloating pots I really shouldn't have been bloating.
I 4bet bluffed twice and it worked, and then I 4bet with A9 after a LRR I knew was FOS - not sure if that's a bluff or a value raise and lost to A8 on a flopped dead man's. After playing this style a bit, I believe this kind of thing is not necessary at these levels to win a healthy profit. I actually went from ~9PTBB/100 to about 2BB/100. I'm sure I picked lots of wrong spots, but I've learned that I at least should not be trying to play like GP.

the thing is I'm sure I could make more 8-table TAGing at those levels, but that bores me to no end. However I think I can successfully play this style well enough at two tables to make NL an interesting break from my limit pursuits.
my goal is to move up and be playing 3/6 NL as a regular break from limit within a month or so. And I think I have a better shot at doing that as a well practiced focused LAG, then I do trying to be a multi-tabling rock. For one I get waaaay to bored playing TAG NL to ever make it too profitable because I make stupid plays and curiosity calls that don't fit with my image.
but playing this way is very similar to playing limit for me, and it fits the way I want to play poker well.
but thanks for the advice, and I definitely am practicing up at 1/2 before trying this at 2/4+. |

I think I saw that hand. That's when the SB said "OK", right? I have to admit, I was a bit surprised to see what you were holding. But, you had the guy pegged.
