Smile What a mistake!!!!!!!

Here's the story: By mistake I find myself in a $6 + .50 6 man SNG PL Omaha HI. I had meant to sit in a 6 man $2 NL Turbo. Anyway, I don't play Omaha. I've dabbled in it very little...and that was usualy hi/lo for some reason. I hate hi/lo. I don't even understand what a freakin low hand is.

So the tourney starts and I get 4 cards. I'm like mother fu**er. I look and it's $6. I'm like mother fu**er all over again. I say "well at least it's not hi/lo. Won the first hand and figure "cool, now I'll coast." Well, as you may have guessed, I won. I am so totally freakin psyched. I won $23.40. Now, that might not seem like a lot to a lot of you, but I'll take it!!! I'm almost back up to my initial deposit amount!!!

Anyway, below is the final hand for posterity. Honestly, there were times when I couldn't figure out how I won the hand.

Full Tilt Poker Game #3990678572: $6 + $0.50 Sit & Go (Turbo) (30342371), Table 1 - 150/300 - Pot Limit Omaha Hi - 3:09:34 ET - 2007/10/28
Seat 2: SirCameron (1,500)
Seat 5: AquamanCT (7,500)
SirCameron posts the small blind of 150
AquamanCT posts the big blind of 300
The button is in seat #2
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to AquamanCT [Qc 4s 6h 7s]
SirCameron raises to 900
AquamanCT calls 600
*** FLOP *** [Js 8s 5c]
AquamanCT has 15 seconds left to act
AquamanCT bets 1,800
SirCameron calls 600, and is all in
AquamanCT shows [Qc 4s 6h 7s]
SirCameron shows [5h 9s Kh Ac]
Uncalled bet of 1,200 returned to AquamanCT
*** TURN *** [Js 8s 5c] [8h]
*** RIVER *** [Js 8s 5c 8h] [4c]
AquamanCT shows a straight, Eight high
SirCameron shows two pair, Eights and Fives
AquamanCT wins the pot (3,000) with a straight, Eight high
SirCameron stands up
AquamanCT stands up
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot 3,000 | Rake 0
Board: [Js 8s 5c 8h 4c]
Seat 2: SirCameron (small blind) showed [5h 9s Kh Ac] and lost with two pair, Eights and Fives

It's all gold, but this is my favorite part. Maybe because I don't understand low hands either (what's better, 7432A or 65432?). Actually, I think I know now, but it's cost me a lot of money to learn.

FYI 6low is better than 7 low. flushes and straights don't count against you in low hands. thus, the best low is 5432A. It also counts for a straight in the high hand so you may be able to scoop the pot if the other guy doesn't beat the wheel straight for the high

Re: What a mistake!!!!!!!

The easiest way to figure out how good a low hand is to do this:
1. Find 5 cards you can play that are unpaired, 8 low or better (Ace counts as "1" for low)
2. Rank the 5 cards from high to low and read it as a 5 digit #
You want the lowest 5 digit #
Example:
87542 beats 87654
65432 beats 7432A
6532A beats 6542A

Re: What a mistake!!!!!!!

Congrats on the victory.

Lo hands are funny - 76543 beats 8432A and 86543 beats 8732A. Just the way it works. Just make a deck of Aces through Eights and deal some 5-card hands until you're used to it.

Nice win Russ. Online poker is rigged. They let you win so they can take more of your money later.

Re: What a mistake!!!!!!!

If you only have 5 cards 8 or lower and two of them are a pair, does that qualify as a low hand?

Nope. Answer this question is a pair lower or higher than a 8 hi hand?
