At the stakes I play (micro), new players are always good for my game. The more this news blows up, and the longer it is an issue, it has the potential to disrupt the confidence of anyone willing to deposit into online poker...and that is not good. |

I would like to know when this story is going to receive more coverage then it has in the past week(s). If only 1% of online poker players know about it now - I don't see many more knowing about it at a later date. |

Rather, I think it's the government that is supposedly looking out for 'our best interest' and possibly loved ones of those online players who are going to make things blow up assuming it gets picked up by even more mainstream media sources. Think of the spin that can be placed on a story like this. Quote:

But AP hadn't made a statement until a couple days ago; and even now the statement is not very public. AFAIK they have (1) had someone (?) tell someone else (?) at pocket fives that there was a breach, and they will make statement and (2) sent e-mails to players that there was a breach. I don't even know if it was all players, or just those who have played with Potripper, Greycat, etc. It's not like they released a press statement. When/if they do, more media sites might pick it up.
Now that a couple of more mainstream media sites have picked it up on the back pages, I'm a little worried. It could just fizzle, but if it gets mentioned on something like the Daily Show, or Dateline, or any number of other news-taintment (?? I don't know what to call them) like shows, we could be screwed.
Plus I will have to deal with more harping from my mother-in-law.

AP is paying everybody back and fixing the problem. Their initial response was pi$$-poor, but that isn't what's going to matter now. A popular online poker room is a $$$-printing-press for its owners. Do you think any of them are going to let this happen to them? No way.
Internet poker is a young (less than 10 yrs old) business, and unregulated (at least by the US govt). I'm surprised something like this hasn't happened before now, and it may always be an issue, but it will be a small one. The real issue with online poker is players who cheat, like that jacka$$ who won the WCOOP then got outed as a cheater. |

Cheers. Quote:
