Re: P* 9 handed turbo SNG question.

Turbos do require more than the luck of a coin flip. They are about knowing ICM and accurately choosing what coinflip to participate in based on the number of players in play, their stacks, etc. It's all pre-flop poker, but it's pre-flop poker in a way that doesn't get played in any other format.

And for someone like me that sucks at poker but had done enough ICM drills to do most fairly well, that's a good match. The less post-flop play and chances for me to outsmart myself, the better.

Re: P* 9 handed turbo SNG question.

I just think of these as quick bank roll builders...I don't take them too seriously.

My basic strat for $3.00 +.25 turbe SNG is as follows.

Don't play any hands early unless they are top 10 and you have position. Wait about 5 minutes and 1 or two people are gone. you've just got pick them off one at a time. I don't push pre-flop or call all-in pre-flop unless I've got a monster(I'll fold AK even, I know I can outplay them later so a coinflip now isn't worth it). I favor suited connectors in these games as people tend to over commit top pair only. I look to play mainly straights and draws, I'll limp a lot, looking for drawing hands, people with a pair of aces seem oblivious to all the potential straights and flushes. As long as I've got at least $1000 in chips when it's down to 3 or 4 people, I feel I am in position to win. Chip leaders will often start trying to bluff at pots, and you can pick up decent pots from them if you connect. Shorter stacks will go all-in with Ace junk, if you can see a flop cheap and connect and slow play you are almost garranteed they will go all-in with just ace high. If you've got $2000 and they've got $800, I'd gamble with middle pair, as long as I can stay above $1000. $1000 gives me enough to scare people from calling or pushing. any lower and people tend to call with anything looking to knock you out. When it gets heads up...it's usually not bad, you;ll get your pushers that push every hand and you'll get your mouses that fold every hand. Play each accordingly.

Re: P* 9 handed turbo SNG question.

I play a ton of turbo 6-handed SnGs on P* and I've never really noticed this. Then again I haven't played much the last 2 weeks or so.
