This is the first time I ever did something like that, and I got burned because of it. | Everyone else isn't saying buy in for 5% of your bankroll at any old "low limit NLHE table". They're saying play a limit where you have ~20 buyins (i.e., and this is the important part, 2000 big blinds).
It sucks that you ran your money up to $400 and lost to a once in a lifetime quads over quads, but did you consider it may have just delayed the inevitable?
With $400 you should have been playing 25nl (.10/.25), not 400nl (2/4), and since you bought in for $400 you were at least playing 2/4 or higher. |

Now when I turn my $50 into $200 or $250 I will change tables. Sometimes buying into that table for a lower amount looking like a poor stacked guy, maybe $36.85, or something along those lines!
It's hard to do especially when cards are hot and the table is under your control. But use the will power and reflect on the big stacks of yours that dwindled to nothing because you didnt want to leave quite yet!
Its hard, I still have to kick myself in the a$$ to do it, I have a sign on my monitor that says .... "GOT $200? LEAVE!!!!"
They should have a bad beat jackpot, you would have cashed in big for that one! | If you are at a profitable table against an opponent who continues to pay you off, you should NEVER leave, regardless of how much you are up. A good table should be milked dry. If you look at your entire poker life as one long session, it should not matter how much you take (or lose) in one sitting. The hard part is playing the same style whether up 3 buy-ins or down 3 buy-ins. If you are worried about "giving it all back", then either the table is better than you are giving it credit for, or you ran lucky till now and are worried about being unlucky. Sometimes when you are way up, you may end up losing some. But if the table is ripe, the longer you sit there the more money you should make....unless the fish leave before you can clean them out |

That is the only time I remember being fully tilted out.....I honestly lost all poker ability and triple doubted myself in every decision for the next 24 hours (The big loss was about 4 hours into a 2 day stay at the woods....not good). That hand for me is probably the equivalent of this hand for you Ikkans.
The truth is, you need to remind yourself that second nuts is still second nuts regardless of strength and probability, and as someone stated, you'll get paid the majority of times in this situation. Unfortunately it was against someone who had stacks comparable to yours and in my worst Scotty Nguyen impression "thats no limit baby". |

I do not understand how you play though. If you bring $400 to the table and at the same time will not spend it all I think you are an easy target for the aggresive players. What do you do when they raise if you have deside to not spend it all unless you have the monster?
I think you have to be comfortable losing what you bring.
I do not mean to be negative and sounding like a tutor and I hope you do not take any offence.
With hope for a quick recovery. |

Sorry for your loss. Not much worse then being told you have under quads except maybe being told you have the idiot end of the str8 flush in Omaha.
Think of this as a challenge to grow you BR bank up. Personally, I do this all the time but mostly cause I want a new toy and make a big cashout to fund it.

With hope for a quick recovery. | I suppose I've been a bit lucky in the fact that I've been able to come out on top during most of my cash game sessions. I don't play them all the time, I'm usually a tournament kind of guy, to be honest. However, with cash games I'm usually able to profit, or if I didn't, I lost very little.
Oh well, I'm still extremely upset, but I guess it's back to the .01/.02 tables and the $1.10 SnGs for a while. Hopefully I'll be up to $100 in a month or so. |
