The Twins were in town and that night Jim Perry came to the kid's house in Eastie and took him to dinner. Your namesake was a classy guy and his brother could pitch a little too. Good luck Jim

I was on the rail for a few of your hands this morning. Saw you win a few decent pots an lose one when the person hit a set of nines against you.

I put in too much action against him on the turn, but he has capped me on the turn before with A6 on a 6443 board when I had pkt 99.
I usually sit down with 500 at 5/10, 800 at 8/16, 1000 at 10/20, .
Typically I sit with 50BB at whatever level I play. That way I don't really have to pay attention to my stack size and worry about reloading if I am playing 3-4 tables. also I think it is tougher for players to figure out if I am winning or losing, which helps as the really aggressive players often take shots at you if they think you are losing.
I used to play shortstacks often when I played NL, but that was before I improved my game some. Now I always buy in for the maximum. If you want to see me play really crazy try to catch me sitting at a weak 1/2NL table where i'll probably be playing 40% of my hands and raising about 30-35% pf. I'm working on playing as loose aggressive as possible, and so far the shift in my strategy is really paying off. |

The main reason I haven't made the game is that the weekends are usually when I am spending time with my gf since she is usually swamped all week (harvard med student...she is the impressive half of our relationship). If you guys get a tourney going on a mon-thurs night I might have to make it out there since you have graciously invited me several times, and I have rudely never made it.
PS: I have an old Jim Perry baseball card from when he played with the Twins. One of my favorites. In a special case in my sock drawer back home in WV. |

When do you normally play NL?
Here's another Q , what do you think is e best time to play?
Days 10am-4pm
Eves 5pm-11PM
Nights 12AM -4AM
I know I'm skipping some hours but I believe you get the jist.
Normally for me it's Nights. One reason is because I won't be distracted by love ones. Another is because I'm normally wide awake and usually thinking clearly.
I'm sure someone has thought this out before as when to play when the money is good. I probably should start a new thread so I won't jack this thread anymore.
Keep grinding away Jim.

Keep grinding away Jim. | threadjack away, I don't mind.
I typically play NL whenever I feel like taking a break from limit, but feel like playing. I would say I tend to play more NL in the afternoons and early evening when the limit games are often dead or not juicy.
I would say the NL games are good anytime between about 6PM EST to about 6AM EST. Obviously you need to table select because the grinders are on there the most at those times. I think some of the best times to play are from 9PM - 12AM, and from 2AM-5AM. You have the most fish from 9PM-12AM. And from 2AM on you tend to have a mixture of players who have been losing and are trying to recover losses (usually not on their best game) less grinders, and the asians start to show up (they play bad).
for limit I think the best games are tougher to pin down. The grinders are on there always, so you really want to avoid them. I usually find the most poor players from 6pm-2AM, but sometimes like tonight I found 3 really good tables going after 2AM. the mornings and afternoons are usually really bad times to play limit as there are usually not a ton of tables, and the TAG grinders are squatting on the good seats against the few poor players that are on then.
My sleep schedule has totally shifted, and I usually sleep now from 5AM-12noon, because that is when the games are the crappiest. |
