PokerStar & Poker Edge

Here is how Star feels about the program PokerEdge for anyone that is interested.

Upon a review of your account, we find that you have been accessing a web site and software program known as Poker Edge, while
playing on PokerStars. This is against the terms of service to which you agreed when opening your PokerStars account. Those terms
of service are located here:

http://www.pokerstars.com/tos.html

Among them are these terms:

4.4 EXTERNAL PLAYER ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS (EPA). PokerStars
prohibits External player assistance programs ("EPA
Programs") which are designed to provide an "Unfair
Advantage" to players. PokerStars defines External to
mean computer software (other than the PokerStars game
client provided by PokerStars), and non-software-based
databases or profiles (e.g. web sites and subscription
services). PokerStars defines an "Unfair Advantage" as a
User accessing or compiling information on other players
beyond that which the User has personally observed through
the User's own game play. We encourage you to read our
Prohibited Programs FAQ at:

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/room/prohibited/

...In the event that PokerStars deems that a User has engaged
in fraudulent, unlawful or improper activity while using the
Software or playing the Games, including without limitation
a User who has colluded or attempted to collude with another
user of the Software, or has used Prohibited ... programs,
PokerStars shall be entitled to take such action as it sees
fit, including immediately blocking access to the Games to
such User, terminating such User's account with PokerStars
and seizing all monies held in the relevant PokerStars "real
money account".

At this time, we are issuing you a formal warning for the use of prohibited software that is explicitly listed as forbidden on the
above Prohibited Programs FAQ. You must cease accessing this site while using PokerStars immediately, and acknowledge by Email
that you are doing so.

Failure to comply with the terms of service may result in an escalation beyond warning, to other remedies as described above.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Re: PokerStar & Poker Edge

if you install some firewall software like zonealarm pro, you should be able to block them from detecting it. It worked that way with party poker, I could run PE or some other 'banned' program and they wouldn't be able to detect it.

Not saying you are wrong, but sounds weird since I'd assume that the Party client scans all the processes which are being run on the system. On their page they even admit to data mining the clients computer to check for stuff. I'd still be very careful about running software that they say are banned, well actually I wouldn't touch them at all.

Re: PokerStar & Poker Edge

Of course there are ways around it (infact, PE itself has built-in features for that now) but do you want to take the chance? Is it worth it to have your account frozen and lose all the money in it. I don't condem or condone the program but Star considers it an unfair advantage. It will depend on the person whether they want to use it or not.

Exactly, and that's why something like zonealarm pro can stop this. You decide what you let each program do on your computer. When zonealarm alerted me about party poker snooping around, I simply denied it from doing so and it couldn't see the processes.

I agree with Stars. If it's not something you would consider using in a live game, I do not think you should use it on-line. Make decisions on your own.
IMHO of course.

I doubt I could bring my laptop into a live game and type in the hands into PT and let PA-Hud show me the stats on every one. I do think it gives me an unfair advantage. Although I suspect the fact that it allows people to play much more tables (more rake) is a large part of the reasoning why poker sites lets people use it instead of claiming it to be an unfair advantage.

Re: PokerStar & Poker Edge

I personally think that you're talking about two different games. Online vs. live cash games are separate animals. You need to employ different strategies for each game.
