Sitting out in a SnG

Does anyone else find this to be very bad ettiquite?? It irratetes the hell out of me... Player take down a huge pot to then sit out till he/she has made the money.

Re: Sitting out in a SnG

You probably are wrong to think this way.
It wouldn't be bad etiquette to fold every hand he got, so it really isn't to sit out.

Re: Sitting out in a SnG

Suppose "the money" was a $1M payday, and you have enough chips to get paid without playing another hand. Would you sit out?

Not bad form. Once you pay your money you may do with your chips whatever the rules indicate.

Re: Sitting out in a SnG

You may think it is dirty pool , but it's a valid strategy (especially for a for a poor player). Is it much differnent than sitting tight with a short stack waiting for the right moment, especially when near the bubble (semi-sitting out).
Just think of it this way. Who would you rather play heads up, a guy who earned the spot or one who got lucky 1x and is probably trying to get lucky again?

Re: Sitting out in a SnG

Well crap!! I would feel much better about it if player would just fold each hand dealt. I know it still the same it just feels wrong to me.

Guess I should quit and just get over it.

Re: Sitting out in a SnG

This irritates the hell out of me too Aces!!!!! I do agree however that it is not much different then the player folding every hand until they hit the money. I have also seen it where a player hits the big pot early - sits out- and then jumps back in every so often to play when he/she has big pocket cards. I guess the advantage I have as a players is:
1. When that player is on the blinds I know there is a better chance of stealing them
2. If the player jumps in to play the hand they have a big hand and I will change my play accordingly

Re: Sitting out in a SnG

I've done it before mostly in satellites where I can simply coast into like the top 30 that qualify.

What's more irritating, a big stack sitting out or a small stack taking the maximum amount time possible just to fold every hand waiting till someone busts out before them.

Side note, bought into a $1 45 player SNG and sat the whole thing out; busted on the bubble. A few folks were actually rooting for me to make the money.

Re: Sitting out in a SnG

I think it's great unless you're one to the right of the sitter and then your SB's get attacked. You can attack his big blind all day long then. It's their money and their prerogative.

I hate slow players though - I rarely dish out trash talk except for deliberate slow playing.

when people make -EV decisions that give me a better chance of make $$$ I usually don't get too upset. Dead money in lots of pots, and one less hand to fade every time you try to steal. that sure does suck!

so basically the guy with the big stack who has the most options and is one of the biggest threats to your tourney has decided to go ultra-weak-tight (ie not play any hands) and you are complaining? I guess I just don't get it.....
