I just read that tools that share hand histories get you banned and I guess I overreacted, but I'm sure you are right about it being ok to share hand histories since thats not really comparable with a network of sharing.

Does Party really have a policy against mining? I didn't notice it and happily mined away for a few days.

Mining does give a large advantage, combined with table selection tools I have had it very easy to find the tables with the loosest players. If I only were a good enough player to beat NL10 I could have made a fortune Unfortunately I had to muck my pride and go back to NL5 sine I only had 6 BIN's for NL10 and didn't want to loose it all.

In the old version software from Party, datamining was allowed but they changed the software not to allow it but third party software gets around that. That is also why Party give you a warning if you use software such as Poker Spy (others) which previously had huge hand histories. If Party detects you using such software, it gives you a warning not to use it or face having your account locked/banned. PokerStar has given warnings to the 3rd party software not to offer it for sale or use and they all have comply with the request (see pokertracker forum.)

It is against the T&C of most poker sites to share hand history files but that would be impossible to detect if you take someone's data and merge it with your own.

I browsed through the Party policy, but didn't see anything about data mining. Are you sure its not allowed? They did specify that programs which share player info are banned. After I had mined for a day and started to play I got a pop-up where I had to input some letters (like those to prevent automated sign-ups for forums) so I guess their software detects that its controlled by another program, but I haven't gotten any emails or anything to stop mining.
