A buddy I play cards with had a suggestion that I thought was a good one. . .
He thinks that after the deal, online poker should show your cards face down (just like everyone else). When you want to look at your cards you need to click on a "peek" button or just click on your cards. Everytime you look, it will make your cards blink or turn a different color, so everyone else at the virtual table knows you just looked.
I think it is a great idea. Part of reading people at the table is watching them take an extra look at their cards. Having your cards face down online would simulate table play much better.
What do you think?
Note, I only have played two online sites, so this may be used somewhere already, which will make my entire post look stupid.
a couple of sites like TruePoker implemented this (the site that David Sklansky endorsed for a time period). I like the idea, and it does add more to the game, but the biggest problem is that it greatly slows down play.
Most of the major sites right now are making a lot of money off of people playing 3+ tables at a time for medium stakes, and these sites understand that increasing the processing and graphical demands relating to the software is only likely to slowdown the # of hands per hour and create bugs which hurts their bottom line and upsets the multi-table grinders.
But as software progresses I would expect to see things like this implemented in the future. Especially when online poker is made legal in the US and the competition to attract US players because more intense.
I have a lot of friends that would absolutely hate this because they 6-10 table MTTs (usually with 2-3 monitors..)
Personally I don't see anything wrong with how it is now. It'd be kind of annoying to have to click my cards to see them, I like having them in plain sight.
