Sharkscope - Do people pay for this?

I was just curious if anyone here actually pays for that site..

It seems like anytime I'm in a SNG tournament, "winning" people like to bring out the stats on others from Sharkscope, and make fun of them for it.

The site has a link that allows you to block your stats from non-paying users, which I have chosen to do.

I really only use it as a method of checking up on my friends from the area to see how they've been doing, and not really as a tool against opponents. It doesn't actually offer any information that might be useful, just overall games, wins/losses and ROI%. I'd imagine most of that stuff is available with PT/HUD?

Re: Sharkscope - Do people pay for this?

Sharkscope is really cool. It tells you all their results on the site in question. PT can only track the games you've played with them.
It can be useful, especially you pay for it, by showing how often a player wins, and by extrapolation, if they are a solid player or not. If you don't pay then you only get 5 searches a day, but if you pay you could scope the whole table.

Another useful feature is their "form" or their last 8 results. If you see that a player hasn't cashed for a few, then perhaps they will be playing more tightly at the bubble, hoping to squeak into the money.
Throwing sharkscope stats at losing players is something fairly foolish, really solid player likely would not be doing this.

I don't pay yet, btw, but I am considering trying out the 8.99 package since I've been playing a lot more SnGs lately.

Re: Sharkscope - Do people pay for this?

I'm not a paying customer, but I like to use it. I mainly check my own stats though Its fun to see the results by month and by day (like Monday, Saturday and Sunday have been most profitable while other days have been much worse).

I do find it useful when I'm not sure if a player made a brilliant play or if he is a donkey - a quick look at his stats will verify it.

And for instance if a player to my left doesn't play many hands, but I figure he might be good and understand about position, if I see he has played a huge amount of games and is winning - I will steal his blinds every time since he understands that he will be out of position if he just calls

If I could have the scope stats presented on top of the player names I could pay something for the service, but 5 searches a day has been enough for me.

Re: Sharkscope - Do people pay for this?

IN a HU SNG last night, when I got a leg up in the match and my opponent started calling me a donk, he then started spouting his stats and encouraged me to look him up in sharkscope. (Which I already had, of course.) He had decent numbers, and was generally a winning player.

I said, "Gee, it would be neat to earn a shark icon on there, wouldn't it?" Pause in the chatter, while he looked me up.

"You have one," he replied.

"I know," I said. "Maybe you will someday, too." He stopped chattering.

It's even more fun to have the litty fishy next to your name! (If you pay, check my stats on FullTilt under the same name) - I used to donk around in heads up SNGs a lot and had no idea what I was doing.

My stats on P* are close to break-even but with a decent ROI. I don't play a lot of SNGs, but I'm starting to play the single-table ones.

I'll try to stay out of your way Speak

Hey Speak, what does it take to get a shark icon? Also, I'm a relative newbie at scoping, what do you think of my stats - bigmike78 on stars? The main thing I look at in others is if they are overall winners or losers, especially big long term losers.

If you check the options at the SharkScope page you can adjust how it shows the fish & sharks. Basicaly it looks at the ROI compared to the average winning amount. So a high stakes player needs to have 5% ROI while lower stakes player need to have 15% to be counted as a shark. At least that is how I understood it

Re: Sharkscope - Do people pay for this?

a guy once remarked to me in a heads-up match, are you a beginner? i said, "no, why?" and he told me about Sharkscope. I think I've made $1,100 or so since then, I'd like to know what it even says about me now. Is it just sng's or tourneys, too?
