I'm recently new to this forum and poker and general. I would like to play free internet poker for awhile honing my skills or find out if I have any for that matter.
Except I can't get alot of poker spam, because then i'll have alot of explaining to do to the wife.
Basically I don't want a problem before there ever was one!
Fun only at this point.
Almost every online poker room has a play money alternative. Just download the software and play.
Or, if you're worried she'd notice the software installed on the comp, there are quite a few poker rooms that offer a flash based client. Just another Firefox window, easily closed. Can't think any though... other than Betsson.com
Welcome to the forum. While playing free poker will let you see many hands without investing anything, the play is so loose and crazy that it will not give you much of an idea of your skills. Unless you play sit-n-go tournaments. After the first few get knocked out, play tends to be more indicative of real money play...but not entirely. Even the .02/.05 tables at some sites see more accurate poker play than the play money ring games do.
As far as sites go, I would think any one will do, just pick one with the selection of games that you like. Any major site will have plenty of players at all hours. In summary, try the free sit-n-go's or if you can, make a small deposit and play the really low (micro) stakes. Pokeroom.com has free tables and it is Java-based....no downloads...sign up and play.
When I wanted to play without investing money I downloaded the demo of Poker Academy, through the software you get to play at their play money tables. For unregistered users the selection is a bit small though. It was fun to play at the tournies though, but as soon as I won one they wouldn't let me play anymore. I think Poker Academy might be a good purchase anyway, since a good bot it probably much bettter than small stakes players anyway and people at their tables are probably willing to improve their play instead of just pushing any two cards. The headsup play is also very interesting. Too bad the cheap version doesn't have the best bots and the other version is quite expensive.
