It might not sit well with the guy who just paid him off but that's the way it goes. With the amount of available games at any given online site it doesn't kill a game if someone up and leaves.
Live, however, that's another story. In home games, if someone comes in, takes down half the money in the room and then runs away laughing, it could screw up the entire evening. There's not as much chance to find another opportunity to get your money back. Plus you'd likely get kicked in the newts.

Seems like a double standard. |

With strangers (whether that's online or live at a casino), you don't have any obligation to stick around. Bail with your cash if that's what you want.
But with friends and/or a regular game, I'd want to continue playing with these people in the weeks to come. So I would be more sensitive to a hit and run. Better to stay around until your natural quitting time. I also try to mention early in the night if I have some unusual reason that requires me to leave at a certain time. Just courtesy and being kind to the fishes! |

Online is just another form of casino. B&M or online, I take my money and leave anytime I want to.
Home games are (or should be IMO) more about a social evening. Play well, play to win, but these are your friends, so don't piss them off unnecessarily.

Chips: 5,913 | | | Re: presented for discussion..Is a "hit and run" bad etiquitte..? the reason it isn't frowned upon online is that it will never breakup the game. If somebody sits in your game and takes half the tables $$$ in a big rush and then gets up and leave, then the game might end for lack of players or cash. But online you can always find another game and more $$$ so there is no problem trying to recoup your investment. |
