Why playing someone on autoaway gets annoying very fast..

Went heads up in a 9 person play money SNG and the knucklehead was on autoaway....This is how many hands it took to win with him being all in on just two cards b/c he couldn't make the big blind...he would double up, keep folding (obviously) until it forced him all in, rinse, repeat...10 hands with him all in with no $$$ before I finally won the hand...Look at his hands..thank GOD he wasn't there, AA, AQ, JJ twice, hitting straights on the river and so on and so forth.... ..I think I am bout thru with play money online...time to play with the big boys...

No player should be allowed to get paid, no matter how small while sitting out ten or so hand from the bubble position onward. Just play the game dammit. Or get a laptop and wifi and play in the bathroom if you can't hold it long enough to finish an online tournament. If that's too expensive, there is always the crazy astronaut solution. Diapers.

As far as I am concerned, if you paid the buy-in, you can sit out any hands you want, for as long as you want. If that means luckily stumbling into the money, so be it. It is certainly not a winning strategy......
I used to play at pokerroom, and on their forums there was CONTANTLY somebody complaining about "away" players, how they should not be allowed to sit out for such a long time. The common response was, "If you cannot find a way to beat someone who folds every hand, you need to re-evaluate your game".... (not directing this at you, the3rd...just making the comment)
But it looks like osumike ran into quite a run of bad luck.

It has nothing to do with beating players. I've never been bumped by an away player. When I used to play regularly it was the same people doing it over and over again. It wasn't a coincidence. I signed on to play poker. Why the hell are they signed on. It's not a winning strategy and sitting out won't improve your game so again I ask, why? If sites bounced away players, it might give an incentive to play. I suspect most are just bonus whoring and just trying to luck into the money on occasion to break even. Those players can get bent.

Re: Why playing someone on autoaway gets annoying very fast..

I ran some tests (talked about them here) on P*'s Play Money tournaments a while back.

I joined several 27 player Play Money tournaments while doing housework one afternoon and never played ONE hand. The average finish point in like 3 tournaments was 7th place, with 6th place being the bubble.

I tried a few more 27 players PM tournaments where I pushed all-in on the first hand no matter what I had. if I won and doubled up, I would then sit out every hand from there forward, and the average finishing spot was 5th place, just inside of the bubble.

Players get nutty when it comes to Play Money Tournaments, since there is nothing at risk, and they can play another one 30 seconds after they are busted out.

Re: Why playing someone on autoaway gets annoying very fast..

That reminds me of a €1 SNG that I played last week, I lost an all-in and had 300 chips left of the 1500 starting stack with 5-6 players left. I figured I was as good as gone and went to take a shower. When I came back these players had been so aggressive that we were down to 3 players - I was in the money. When I came to the computer I was all-in in the big blind and got a straight. Didn't bother to sit down since I figured that if I don't make any dumb plays and instead let the away-button play for me I might get to second place

The tactic you described about doubling up and then being away in freerolls sounds good. I noticed when I played some $500 2000 player freerolls that the "away people" busted way before the bubble, I tried using this tactic on a 500 player freeroll but managed to go just before the bubble. By doubling up I would probably have made it... Hmmm thanks for a good strategy in case I loose my bankroll (A bankroll I worked up from winning $3 from a freeroll )
