Id really like to know where the expression "on tilt" comes from....I have heard it is in reference/analoguos to a pinball machine, and when you would tilt it to its side while playing, for example, the machine would go a little crazy, or shutdown and you lost your ball etc....
Also, where does "the nuts" originate from. "I flopped the nut straight"
Love to find the backstory/history on that one as well.
My favorite recent word is "nit"...Matusow seemed to popularize this one for a minute in the poker world last year or so, but I know it must date back some time in the gambling world since an old-time gambler at Binion's used this expression when talking about someone at the poker table when I was there a few weeks back.
