Rakeback question.

I had never done rakeback before, mostly because I had made an account on every site possible back in my bonus-whoring days. Well, my work computer makes it possible to sign up for new accounts on sites I already have an account on (having to use a different payment method helps, too). In any event, I have a rakeback account on FullTilt now.

My question is: how do these sites determine rake? Is it the rake YOU contribute, or the total rake taken in the hands you're dealt in, regardless of whether any of it is actually from you or not?

It's usually the total rake of the table.

Re: Rakeback question.

Full Tilt: dealt rakeback. (they also subtract from your MGR freeroll winnings, bonus clearance and store purchases)

Absolute: contributed rakeback as of Feb. 07 (they have not subtracted anything in the past but have stated that they will begin subtracting bonus clearance from MGR)

Ultimate Bet: dealt rb (UB subtracts 25% of bonus clearance from MGR, but does not subtract for freeroll winnings or store purchases)

dealt means: take the total rake for the hand and divide by the number of players dealt into the hand, and that is how much rake they are credited for for that hand. This favors tight preflop players that have rakeback, as their MGR (monthly garnered rake for which your rakeback will be calculated) will be significantly higher than the rake they actually paid.

contributed means: take the total rake for the hand and divide by the number of players who saw the flop. Each player who saw the flop then has their MGR credited for 1/nth of the rake from the hand where n is the number of players who saw the flop. Contributed more accurately reflects that amount of rake you pay per month, but is not as +$$$ as dealt for tight preflop players. Contributed works out better for tight pf NL than limit players since often tight pf limit players will be playing through the turn and river more often while other players who dropped off with their crappy holdings on the flop receive an equal amount of credit for the rake.

Absolute changed from dealt to contributed starting this month, and my MGR (I have been playing exclusively 3/6 limit 6 max there for the last 6 weeks) has dropped by 50%. They have received a lot of complaints and are considering changing back, but if they don't I will be moving all of my play back to FT or UB.

probably more info than you ever wanted to know about rakeback, but there it is.

Hey yeltzen, why not give WPEX a try? They give 100% rakeback.

That place is a rock garden, hence not a big enough player base (not enough fish)...yet. I do enjoy the rakeback on FT. When I was playing there a lot I was getting almost $500/month in rackback.
